About me and my therapy practice
I offer a professional, ethical, non-judgemental and creative counselling service for Adults, Young People & Children. I hope to make sessions as accessible as possible through negotiable fees. I am mindful that each persons experiences and needs are unique to them. However when times are hard, or confusing, it can be good to talk, to be understood, and explore any current troubles.
Mum of client aged 8:
"Jennie takes an intuitive approach to her therapy. she has a calm and soothing manner which instantly put my daughter at ease. Jennie provided a relaxing and creative space, this allowed my daughter to feel safe and enabled her to freely express herself verbally and creatively. What impressed me the most was Jennie's ability to get right to the heart of the matter and communicate in a supportive way. Jennie has an exceptional capability to work holistically, her approach has had a profoundly positive impact not only on my daughter but also to our direct family. Thank you Jennie for your insight, energy and support."
Practice description
I am an experienced Integrative Humanistic Counsellor/ Psychotherapist. With over 25 years experience of working with children, young people and adults in a therapeutic capacity, both in the UK and abroad.
I am an accredited Counsellor & Supervisor with the NCPS (National Counselling Psychotherapy Society), and a registered member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
Within my private practice I am also a registered psychotherapist with BUPA, Healix Health Services and Affiliate Counselling.
Previously I have worked as a counsellor with:
* Rainbow Cancer Support Centre
* Pembrokeshire Counselling Service
* Pembrokeshire Young Peoples Counselling Service
* Ateb (Pembrokeshire Housing Association)
* Pathways to Change (For people with co-occurring mental health and substance misuse issues)
* Pembrokeshire Schools counselling Service (Primary & Secondary)
* I've also worked as a volunteer supervisor and bereavement supporter for Cruse Bereavement Care.
In accordance with the requirements for registered counsellors; I receive monthly supervision/ consultative support for my work.
I have an art studio attached to my counselling room. In my own time I find making art very therapeutic, although I can't call myself an art or play therapist I do often use both within therapy sessions with children and adults, let me know if you would be interested in this, I find playing with creativity often helps to work with the sub conscious and body at a deeper level, which can allow things to be expressed without words.
I will not judge or tell you what to do, but will gently and compassionately help you find your way and make sense of what is right for you. This is achieved through working together in a confidential, safe and trusting relationship that I hope will be a positive or even life changing experience.
My first session
The first session will involve us both assessing whether we are a good fit to work together. If you don't feel like I'm the right counsellor for you, I will totally understand, please continue to keep looking until you find the right match, sometimes it takes meeting a few counsellors before you find the right one.
In session one I quite often will ask you to complete a CORE 34 form which just gives us a base line to work from and can identify risks and highlight areas that might be useful to work on. It can also be useful to revisit this form at a later stage in order to identify any progress that might have been made.
Sometimes the first session can feel a little disjointed but hopefully it will pave the way so that you feel ready and safe to begin therapy.
