About me and my therapy practice
My main aim is to provide you with a safe, trusted space to talk and gain a good understanding of yourself to be with you in your therapy journey.
Amongst various approaches, my core is Person Centred Counselling, used to help me fully see you with my empathy and explore your unique counselling needs.
I am a Bupa recognized Counsellor.
My specialisms are CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), Trauma.
CBT helps reduce Anxiety and Depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, reduce symptoms of anxiety such as OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) e.g. obsessive cleaning/thoughts. This includes Trichomania, Phobias (e.g., Agoraphobia), Social Anxiety, Separation Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and Panic.
CBT can help identify negative thought patterns to make them positive, help you understand your beliefs and behaviours learned to keep you afloat and change to positive where they may have become harmful to you and no longer helpful.
Through my comprehensive qualification and experience in Trauma Work, I can help with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and CPTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) where I use some CBT and other approaches relevant to you.
Complex CPTSD symptoms can leave the suffer with a negative self-view and negative view of the world, difficulties in emotion regulation and in their relationships (personal or at work) where trust, safety and power and control and self-esteem issues can be severe and impacting their life.
CBT can also help with substance misuse e.g. reduce/ stop smoking, alcohol, drugs.
I have worked in substance misuse (alcohol / drugs) counselling for 3 years during training/post training .
I have worked in a domestic violence organization. I counselled clients who have/are suffering domestic violence abuse including coercive control within their relationship.
Please contact me to have an initial free 10-20 minutes chat to explore how I can help you with the above or any other issues, and negotiate fees as necessary.
My first session
Your first session may be online, via telephone or in-person as arranged. I will conduct an assessment of what you may bring forward to help identify your unique needs in counselling.
You may be required to complete monitoring forms for anxiety and depression or any relevant problems you may bring such as PTSD/CPTSD. This is not compulsory in the first session as I will tailor this to how you may feel at the assessment and your particular needs and expectations.
This initial session is to collect facts to help me get a background history, but my main aim is also to form a connection to understand you fully, so that you may feel safe and trust the space offered to benefit from this therapy.
