About me and my therapy practice
Nearly thirty years ago now, I originally trained in counselling , followed by dramatherapy (Reg.HCPC). I then went on to do further trainings in Integrative counselling with children and adolescents (Reg. MÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ).
I am also a trained Supervisor (Metanoia 2021).
I work in an integrative way. This means I match the way I work to the needs and leanings of my clients and supervisees. For some this means we might work very creatively, using the arts. For others we might draw on a more cognitive behavioural approach and psychoeducation, whilst for others it might be more of the traditional person-centred counselling approach. This is not a rigid plan, but one I am constantly assessing with my client as we move through the therapeutic process.
Undoubtably, however, the most important aspect to the success of our work together is through our relationship. I work in a person-centred and humanistic style whereby my clients’ and supervisees’ needs always take the highest priority. This is the fundamental bedrock to successful counselling , therapy and supervision. I also always strive to be very alive and alert to the wider context; with a keen eye on intersectionality issues.
Over the many years that I have been practicing as a counsellor and dramatherapist, I have developed both my long term and short term practice. Therefore I offer both. Once again, I believe in being flexible to what is appropriate for my clients.
Practice description
I work from home in South Ealing in london. I offer individual sessions to children, young people and adults.
My home practice days are currently Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Occasionally I may work with young people and their parents together, when we have all agreed that this is the appropriate way forward.
Please see my website vicwalmsley.co.uk for more details about my work with young people.
Due to Covid, I am also offering sessions online on Zoom.
Sessions are for 50 mins.
My first session
Our first session together will be a stand-alone session. This means you are meeting me to see if I might be the right clinician for you (or your child). I am also assessing whether I can offer you what you need.
You will tell me as much as you wish to about what brings you to the session and what you would like support with.
For some people, it can be quite hard to articulate all they wish to in a first session, so I will help you to do this in a gentle and supportive way.
I shall explain how we might work together. I usually recommend an inital 6 sessions and then a review. For some, this is enough . For others they need longer. We will also discuss confidentiality and I will talk through a contract, which you will agree to and have a copy of.
Finally, there will be time in this session for you to ask me any questions about how I work and how I might be able to help you.
You will then go away and let me know after you have had time to reflect, whether you would like to work with me.
