About me and my therapy practice
Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (T.A.) is a recognised form of talking therapy that enables a better understanding of the self,
I help individuals and couples recognise how the past influences the here and now, creating a better understanding and an ability to move forward with more acceptance. Accepting all parts of the self is important for mental health and well-being.
Integrating knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy (CFT), or person-centred therapy enables a more flexible solution.
The psychotherapy approach can help to ease the suffering of anxiety and depression, understand emotions, create better boundaries, build self-esteem and resilience.
Therapy is a great starting point to understanding the self on the journey of discovery.
Reaching out at a time of need shows great courage; I provide online therapy that fits around busy schedules, face-to-face is based in the Burnley area, and phone or email is also a way to meet therapy.
Practice description
I work online via Zoom, email, and phone.
I have gained a better understanding and insight into clients' needs when working online having a recognised qualification for online working (Cyber Therapist) I have worked online now for over 6 years. I find online therapy works as well as face-to-face, phone therapy is equal in the support context, including e-mail therapy However you choose to arrive that is in a confidential safe space.
You are no longer alone
I work face-to-face in the Burnley area, considering prerequisites regarding COVID-19 before attendance. This does not require COVID-19 vaccination proof, only attendance online if symptoms appear to be COVID-19-related.
My first session
What happens in the first session?
There is a bit of paperwork, such as an intake form, including a risk assessment, to allow me to support you in the best way possible; I usually send this via email and discuss this in the first session.
I am interested in what has brought you to therapy; I encourage you to talk about how things are working or not working in your life and what you expect to gain from therapy. I want to understand your needs and see how we can work together.
What will I need for the session?
It can help me to know your name, up-to-date contact details, and any medication, including doctor details; it can help to have that information on hand should you need extra support.
Meeting online or by phone might benefit you. Having a cup of tea or water and some tissue therapy can bring forward tears and laughter. you want to be comfortable.
I provide a comfortable environment for face-to-face sessions at the Banyan Wellness Centre in Burnley.
Payment is usually required twenty-four hours before the session banking details are provided once a session is confirmed.

About me and my therapy practice
I work with supervisees in a reflective capacity, helping to understand and nurture yourself and the client.
Do you feel stuck with clients or are not sure of the way transference works?
Do you wish to understand complementary transactions that are clues to your attunement with the client?
Do you wish to learn the art of using metaphors and imaginings to help the client move forward more subtly?
Supervision
I work from the seven-eyed model of supervision (Peter Hawkins and Aisling McMahon)
That focuses on:
1. The client: who they are and what their issue is, what they chose to share, which area of their life they wanted to explore, and how this session's content might relate to content from previous sessions.
2. The strategies and interventions of the supervisee with the client, using metaphors and images
3. The relationship between the client and the supervisee; how the supervisee's history affects the therapeutic relationship.
4. The supervisee, the transference and countertransference that could affect the therapy they provide.
5. The supervisory relationship: the parallel process that may play out during supervision.
6. The supervisor focuses on their own process and how their work with the supervisee affects the supervision relationship.
7. Focus on the wider context: professional codes of ethics, the context the supervisee works from, the relationship with other agencies or other supervisors, social, cultural, and political beliefs, and economic context.

My first session
It can be helpful to know the modality you are trained in when embarking on supervision.
I am trained in Transactional Analysis and have experience in other modalities, such as person-centred, cognitive behavioural therapies, acceptance, and commitment therapies, including mindfulness. I encourage therapists to observe the therapeutic alliance to understand transference and countertransference. I also see supervision as a way to gain confidence as a therapist.
