About me and my therapy practice

Hello, and a very warm welcome. Whatever is troubling you, whatever the stress or anxiety or trauma, let's work together gently and creatively to support your healing and moving forwards. I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist with over 15 years in practice helping and supporting adults.

I am also a certified clinical supervisor supervising both trainee and qualified therapists. Please see my supervisor profile for further details.

As an integrative psychotherapist I practice in a warm and client-centred way working holistically and tailoring my skills to match your needs. I am trained in a number of modalities: psychodynamic, humanistic, existential and transpersonal psychotherapies. As well as the traditional ‘talking cure’, we can work with Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and related energy therapies, IFS (Internal Family Systems), mindfulness and meditation, body and breath work, multi-modal CBT, Gestalt therapy, visualisation, drawing and working with your dreams and archetypal material.

I have also undergone specific trauma training and am able to see clients through the whole spectrum of trauma and dissociative disorders. I am a DID (dissociative identity disorder) friendly therapist.

First and foremost, our work together is centred on building a relationship where you feel safe and more at ease. My role is to understand what life is like for you as we work collaboratively to make sense of your experiences; to help you unearth the inner resources and personal qualities you already possess to cope better and discover new ways of being and relating.

As well as the issues listed below, and as a mother myself, I have a special interest in pregnancy and motherhood (the changes in a woman's identity, fertility issues, antenatal and postnatal depression, birth trauma, and the trauma of losing a baby).

I look forward to working with you.

Practice description

Sessions are 50 mins in length and are usually weekly.

I work in person from a dedicated confidential space in Croxley Green and Rickmansworth.

I work online either via video or voice.

I also offer sessions via telephone.

I charge the same for both in person and online work primarily as I have a certificate in Cyber Therapy with the Online Therapy Institute.

As well as my Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (a five year training including foundation year), I am also a certified accredited EFT practitioner, MetaTapping practitioner, Matrix Reimprinting Practitioner and Matrix Birth Reimprinting Pratitioner.

EFT, also known as tapping, is a scientifically-proven technique for releasing emotional blockages from the body's energy system. It is a safe and effective technique for the healing of trauma, PTSD, phobias and addictions, stress, anxiety and panic, depression, negative belief systems - it benefits most things, and results are usually fast, with improved feelings of calm and wellbeing.

Matrix Reimprinting and Matrix Birth Reimprinting utilises EFT and visualisation techniques that offer a very effective way in processing and clearing deep trauma without having to relive the actual event and risk retraumatisation. They also help to uncover core unconscious negative beliefs and behavioural patterns and transform them. Matrix Birth Reimprinting helps to gently clear trauma and stress that took place at conception, in utero, birth, and the hours and days after being born. It is also potentially helpful for infertility issues, loss of a child, miscarriage, abortion, and adoption.

My professional memberships include: Registered Member Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, Registrant UKCP, ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online), EFT International.

My first session

To help you decide whether you would like to work with me I offer a free-of-charge preliminary chat lasting 15 to 20 minutes where you can find out more about me and how I work and I can answer any questions you may have.

If we decide to work together I will send you a pre-therapy questionnaire, therapy agreement and GDPR agreement. The pre-therapy questionnaire allows me to get to know a little more about you before our first session and is treated in the strictest confidence. The therapy agreement is a practical guideline for the framework of therapy while the GDPR agreement details how I use and store your personal information.

During our first session we will work collaboratively to address your goals and expectations for therapy and how we are going to work together to get you where you want to be. I often suggest beginning by simply looking at what is happening in your life right now, and everything else, your life story, the big life themes, tend to naturally evolve from this.

Depending on what happens in our first session, I may also introduce other creative ways of working and techniques like EFT.

If this is your very first time in therapy and you are understandably feeling nervous and not sure what to expect please be assured that the whole process will happen naturally and will always go at your pace.

You may also decide I am not the right therapist for you, and that is absolutely fine; I will respect any decision you make. Likewise, if I feel that I am not the right therapist for you then I will make this clear and suggest other relevant therapists and avenues of help.

The decision to end therapy is always open to you. However, what I do suggest in the case of longer-term therapy is that when an ending has been agreed we spend time working towards this. Our relationship will potentially be a significant one and an important aspect of our work together is to the address the ending of the relationship.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello, and a very warm welcome.

I supervise both qualified and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists and offer either online or in person sessions. Supervision can take place either fortnightly or monthly, or weekly if required. My consulting room is in a dedicated space at my home, close to the Metropolitan Line and with available parking.

I can also offer supervision for those in other helping, front-line professions such as coaches, teachers, nurses and support workers to help emotionally unburden their workload, increase resilience and learn new ways of working. It's considered good practice for any school or front-line agency to have monthly supervision for their staff.

Why work with me?

As a supervisor I really enjoy working collaboratively and creatively to help support your work as a counsellor or psychotherapist. I aim to provide a safe and warm space where you can reflect on your practice and recharge your batteries, and where challenge and support are equally balanced to create invigorating and empowering supervision. I really enjoy trusting my supervisees process, nurturing their intuition and valuing their qualities, and seeing their skills develop - I will always tailor my knowledge and experience to whatever degree you need it.

Supervision is a space for sharing and learning in equal measure. Fundamentally it is a place to attend to your wellbeing as a practitioner and develop your own style as an ethical and resilient therapist.

Practice description

My background and training...

My background is integrative/transpersonal, and I use this knowledge, training and experience in my supervision work. I hold an OCN Certificate in Counselling Supervision (Level 5) and am currently undergoing another certificate in supervision with the CTSD as I wanted to specifically train with Robin and Joan Shohet and deepen my skills further.

I have over 15 years experience as a psychotherapist and am trained in the psychodynamic, humanistic (client-centred, Gestalt, TA), existential and transpersonal approaches (see here for further details). I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Level 7) and a Certificate in Cyber Therapy for my online work, so if your practice is online, we can explore your work from an online theoretical perspective too.

My experience and specialisms are broad. I am trauma-informed and related to this and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) accredited practitioner having trained extensively in this somatic therapy, and am also IFS-informed (Internal Family Systems).

I am a UKCP registrant and member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online) and an accredited member of EFT International.

Theoretically, I work with the following models of supervision:

  • CLEAR (Hawkins)
  • Seven-Eyed Model (Hawkins and Shohet)
  • Formative-Restorative-Normative (Inskipp and Proctor)

How much does supervision cost?

  • 50 minutes - £60
  • 90 minutes - £90

What next?

If you would like to work with me, I offer a free 30 minute chat to establish what you are looking for in a supervisor and to make sure we are going to be a good fit working together. I will send you my working agreement prior to this meeting as this forms the basis for our discussion.

Get in touch by calling me on 07985 541 213 or emailing me at sarahhanison@yahoo.co.uk. For further information about me please see my website.

I look forward to working with you.

During our first session we will agree on how we will work together regarding e.g., apportioning time to reflecting on your wellbeing as a practitioner and your client work.
