About me and my therapy practice

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ

I am an experienced counsellor with an extensive background helping individuals to learn how to talk about their mental health.

The person centred approach is at the heart of my practice which means I will offer you a safe non-judgmental space to talk and reflect together. It also means I will not give you advice or tell you what to do.

I understand this may be confusing and disorientating to begin with. However, as we build our therapeutic relationship, I will offer you space to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours at a deeper level.

I will offer you space to explore your experiences which may be holding you back in relationships, work, confidence or just not feeling ok generally.

I use the counselling core values of respect, dignity and honesty in my work as a counsellor. As a female who is neuro divergent, I bring warmth, humour, gentleness and curiosity to our sessions.

If I miss the point of your reflections I will say so. I will check out with you if I have understood your meanings and interpretations, helping you to be more honest with yourself and to think more clearly and rationally about how you see things.

I believe individuals have inner strengths to help them understand what they need to change to make better life choices and lead more fulfilling lives.

I'm based in Oldham and work with individuals across Greater Manchester and beyond.

Primarily, I work with adults and young people.

I have experience of counselling individuals in the NHS, non-profit organisations, higher education and the justice sector.

I take a non directive approach in my work as a counsellor. I will guide and involve you in how you want to explore your issues.

I am trained to use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and solutioned focused practice (SFP) to help individuals learn practical tools and techniques to improve positive thinking patterns and change unhealthy behaviours.

Practice description

My practice is a blend of face to face telephone and online appointments.

I use 2 locations in Manchester city centre for 121 in person appointments.

I offer appointments which work best for you and your schedule. This way you get to have uninterrupted counselling time so we can work on what's important to you.

During our initial introduction call you can find out more about booking counselling appointments, what time of day you prefer and what it may be like working with me.

My first session

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ

The first session will include a short assessment of your aims for counselling.

I may take some notes to ensure I understand what you want to talk about and what you want to get from your sessions.

I will invite you to describe:

  • Your priorities
  • What is realistic to work on
  • What you feel you need me to help you focus on

It's natural to feel apprehensive in the first session. Coming to counselling is like you're saying  'ok, things aren't going well and things can't carry on as they have'. I recognise coming to counselling and making a commitment to engage in our therapeutic relationship takes courage. You have already made a first step to improve things.

To help you feel comfortable we can have conversations about you're expectations, whether you need any special adjustments and its a space for you to ask me questions too.
