About me and my therapy practice
The idea of wanting or needing emotional support may feel daunting, but the experience of receiving it doesn’t have to be.
If this is your first time considering Psychotherapy or Counselling, or you’ve seen a Psychotherapist / Counsellor before, I would like the chance to listen to you.
It can feel extremely difficult opening-up to a stranger, particularly at the beginning, but I hope to build your trust in me to make this easier. In return for your bravery and honesty, I can give you confidentiality without judgment.
You may be feeling lost, depressed or anxious, or worried you don’t know where to start. You may feel concerned you don't have enough to say, or are scared about feeling overwhelmed by your emotions. You may want to disclose something for the first time. I want to listen and to help you make your own gradual discoveries and navigate your own path to change.
You are the biggest expert in yourself, so I aim to build a strong therapeutic relationship with you to give you a sense of security, safety and trust in me and in the therapeutic process, so that eventually you may decide you no longer need my support to continue your own personal development.
Counselling is your space, and I aim to be guided by you, giving you time to talk, think, feel and process. One of the things that makes counselling so special is that we rarely get this kind of self-dedicated space in our busy daily lives.
Practice description
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy explores the influence of past relationships and experiences on you emotionally, practically, professionally and in various kinds of relationships. By unearthing and exploring links between the past and consistent or current struggles, I can help you to understand the complexities of your life's emotional and behavioural patterns.
I have gained extensive experience over the years through my work in the NHS. I delivered long-term therapy in a Secondary Care Personality Disorders service, and short-term therapy in the NHS's Primary Care IAPT Service (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies), now called Talking Therapies.
Education and Qualifications:
I hold an MA from Cambridge University.
I have since gone on to be awarded a Certificate of Higher Education in Counselling from Cambridge University’s Institute of Continuing Education.
I then gained my Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Theory and Therapeutic Practice from the Scottish Institute of Human Relations, Validated by Glasgow Caledonian University, and Accredited by COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland - Scotland’s Professional Body for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I have now worked as a qualified Psychodynamic Psychotherapist since 2012.
In 2012 I became a Registered Member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ.
In 2013 I gained my Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ Certificate of Proficiency.
In 2017 I became an Accredited Member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, for which I had to prove I had attained a particular level of professional experience.
