About me and my therapy practice

People come to counselling for many reasons - but whatever your reason is, I can promise you that:

  • I will listen to you attentively and do my best to understand what it is you are going through
  • I will never judge you or tell you what I think you should do
  • I will offer you support and a safe environment in which to talk
  • I will do my best to help you to find your own answers and your own path through life

I have experience of working with a wide range of problems - physical, emotional and spiritual. I have a good working knowledge of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Spiritualism.

Everything you tell me is confidential.

I work in a humanistic (non-directive) way and believe whole-heartedly in the person-centred idea that each one of us has the ability to 'grow towards the light', and to develop and reach our potential.

While the person-centred approach forms the basis of how I work, I also use various creative therapies (such as art and visualisation) as well as elements of TA when appropriate. However, I believe it is up to you, the client, to lead the therapy - to regulate the pace at which progress is made and to accept or refuse methods of working that I offer. I also believe that the decision about what to focus on in any session should be yours and I will never try to persuade you to talk about something you are not ready or not willing to talk about.

I am an accredited member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ and abide by their Code of Ethics. To comply with this Code, I see a supervisor on a regular basis to discuss my client work but client anonymity is strictly preserved in supervision.

Before I trained as a counsellor, I was a doctor and have worked in general practice, women’s health, paediatrics and, for 5 years, as an Army Medical Officer. I am a trained medical hypnotherapist and have a broad interest in complementary therapies.

About me and my therapy practice

PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM UNABLE TO ACCEPT ANY NEW SUPERVISEES UNTIL THE END OF NOVEMBER.  MY APOLOGIES.

I believe that the role of the supervisor is to support, encourage and monitor, in order to help the supervisee to work to the best of his or her potential.

I have a Diploma in Supervision from the Link Centre and have experience of supervising both individuals and groups.  Before moving to Norfolk, I was one of the supervisors for students on the counselling course at Worthing College.  Although I can only accommodate individual supervisees in my own therapy room, I am willing to travel to supervise groups.

My own practice is humanistic, incorporating person-centred, TA and creative therapies.

I charge £40 for qualified counsellors and £30 for counselling students.  Group rates are negotiable.
