About me and my therapy practice
Talking about your problems can be difficult, even with the people who love and care about you. Sometimes you don't know where to turn...you may feel confused, troubled and unable to cope. I am here to offer you support, and to respond to you sensitively , honestly and without judgement. I am totally committed to offer you the time you need and I can assure you of my attention to understand what your unique experience is like. There is no right or wrong, and nothing off limits. It's very important to me that I offer a warm, welcoming friendly space for you to explore , at your own pace, the problems that are troubling for you.
Practice description
I am an experienced and professional therapist, working for 24 years as a counsellor in the N.H.S , online and privately. My career in therapy stemmed from my work in nursing the terminally ill and working with bereaved families.
Since qualifying, I have worked extensively with emotional and relationship problems, including childhood abuse, self esteem and confidence issues.
I have also have 18 years experience, counselling young people between the ages of 11-25, in schools, privately and on line.
I use an Integrative approach in my therapy. This means that I have training in a range of different modalities which form my 'tool kit'. As I get to know you and can understand what makes sense to you, I am able to draw on these strategies to help you to find the right way forward. I use Transactional Analysis as my main modality which informs my learning.
I am a registered and Accredited member of B.A.C.P
My first session
Making contact is often the most difficult step and you may want to talk to me by telephone to see if you feel comfortable, before you commit to meeting. Alternatively , I offer an informal 30 min chat in person so that you can decide if I am a good 'fit' for you. I can arrange this through video or face to face. I do not make a charge for this.
If you decide to go ahead, our first session will be an assessment session. This means that I will gather details from you, such as where you live, date of birth etc. ,who your GP is and any past history that may inform our work together...its also a chance for me to tell you how I work, allowing any questions that you need to ask me. There will be time also for you to tell me what you are hoping to gain from your therapy.
