• Anxiety, depression, stress – including anger, rage, hyper-activity, poor concentration; fragile self-esteem;  difficulty expressing emotions; panic episodes; insomnia, low emotional/physical energy.

• Abuse, trauma, emotional neglect â€“ surfacing as PTSD, Complex PTSD, social anxiety, low self-worth, or somatised as chronic health conditions, and including experience of being excluded or marginalised, of coercive behaviour and emotionally absent parenting. 

• Addictions, compulsive, repetitive or habitual behaviours and dependencies – abusive personal relationships, co-dependency; self-harm; intrusive thoughts, phobias; adverse patterns relating to food, drink, substance abuse.

• Long Covid, post-Covid fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME), post-viral syndrome. I have lengthy experience of  difficulties encountered by those experiencing post-viral conditions.

• Identity, gender, sexuality, relationship and sexual concerns – embracing cultural, physical diversity and neuro-diversity; diversity – race, LGBTQ – issues; sexual abuse (childhood and adult); sexual difficulties; social behaviours.

• Work/life imbalance. You might habitually prioritise work, family, friends at the expense of your own needs.

My ethos and how I work …

I welcome those of diverse ethnic, racial, sexual and gender identities, from wide-ranging social and cultural backgrounds, of many faiths and of none. However you identify, I will bring care, attentiveness, and depth of experience to your need to be truly heard and seen.

My approach is integrative, drawing on awareness of the body. It's fluid, intuitive, gentle, sensitive but rigorous – underpinned by a strong theoretical understanding, sound training and a commitment to lifelong learning.

I have something distinct to offer as one of few people with specific training in both Mindfulness-Based and Compassion-Focused approaches, bringing warmth and thoughtfulness to in-person therapy.

Depth of experience and an attentive, intuitive, creative approach characterise my work. Practising Mindfulness and Self-Compassion has informed my life for some thirty years. This, blended with my core training in Psychosynthesis – an integrative therapeutic model which harnesses the imagination – infuses the therapy I offer. 

I understand from my own experience how painful it can be to lose touch with our sense of humour or perspective, and recognise the value of a holistic approach. We work together to create a context for your own understandings and growth.

Depending on what you find helpful at any particular time, we might bring in metaphor and symbolism, poetry, guided imagery or meditation, or work with direct reference to the body or with dreams.

Equally, I may include psycho-educational tools or specific theoretical frameworks to help you relate to your experience from a more explicitly cognitive angle.

Essential to whatever approach we take is that the relationship is based on trust – a sense that whatever you want to bring to your appointment will be received with acceptance.

My first session

Just arranging an initial appointment – even when that feels daunting – often offers people a sense of relief: the hope that things can be different.

Being heard and seen in a non-judgemental space, where you can start to feel less alone with difficulties, can make a vast difference. And meeting together in the same room is a good way of sensing this.

Your preliminary session will last 50 minutes, as will subsequent sessions.

We can all feel overtaken by stress or by ongoing challenges. And with busy lives it’s often most difficult to stay in touch with ourselves when we most need to. We can explore together the origins of unhelpful patterns, the emotional and physical effects on you, your relationships and those around you, and how – with mindful self-compassion and understanding – you can begin to change them.

It’s important that the therapist you choose has a flexible, individual approach which meets your changing needs within a growing therapeutic relationship: someone with whom you can feel relaxed. At this exploratory meeting we can gauge whether we’d be a good ‘fit’.

I offer therapy/psychotherapeutic counselling to those ready to work at psychological depth on an open-ended basis; and short-term counselling to clients wanting to explore a specific issue.

You may decide to book an initial block of sessions (generally between 8 and 12). Or you might want to think it over for a few days. I’ve found, through experience, it’s important to establish a regularity and momentum to our work together; we’d arrange regular weekly 50-minute sessions at the same time and on the same day of the week.

And it’s important that as our therapeutic connection develops as we do work together, you feel able to talk openly about what you feel you’re getting out of it.

About me and my therapy practice

As an experienced practitioner and supervisor with extensive clinical background, I offer individual/group supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors/therapists. I welcome supervisees from diverse backgrounds practising in a variety of settings and informed by different modalities.

Drawing on clinical work of over a decade, ongoing training and CPD, substantial experience as supervisor of mindfulness practitioners/facilitators, my approach is integrative and relational. I offer supervision in line with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ ethical guidelines; supported by regular, in-depth integrative and mindfulness-based supervision; and underpinned by my clinical and personal mindfulness-based and compassion-focused practices.

My aim is to work with you collaboratively in developing and maintaining a self-reflective therapy/counselling practice: challenging you where appropriate and supporting you in regularly reviewing your self-regulation and self-care. I encourage exploration of unconscious processes within both the therapeutic and supervisory relationship.

I offer you curiosity, engagement and empathetic support in delivering your client work and shaping your clinical practice. I am steady, open, knowledgeable, intuitive, and have experience across different theoretical frameworks.

My training is integrative: originally in psychosynthesis, my practice has deepened, broaden and embraced developments in contemporary thinking and includes mindfulness- and compassion-focused, body-based and phenomenological approaches (theoretical and experiential) in both individual and group work.

Fees: £60 for 50-min (Tues-Weds, normally late morning/early afternoon).

My availability for supervision is currently limited to online (Zoom) sessions.

Practice description

As a long-term mindfulness practitioner, and one of few people specifically trained to bring mindfulness and compassion-based approaches to therapy or counselling, as well as supervision, I offer something particular. 

The supervision I offer is in line with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ ethical guidelines; supported by regular, in-depth integrative and mindfulness-based supervision; and underpinned by my clinical and personal mindfulness-based and compassion-focused practices.

I will work with you collaboratively in developing and maintaining a self-reflective therapy/counselling practice: challenging you where appropriate and supporting you in regularly reviewing your self-regulation and self-care. I encourage exploration of unconscious processes in what may be going on within both the therapeutic and supervisory relationship.

My style is creative and intuitive – whilst drawing on a strong theoretical framework. I listen non-judgementally with genuine interest and concern, and offer thoughtful, attentive support in a personal, safe space. Where appropriate, I bring mindfulness an d compassion-focused approaches into the supervisory process.

Whilst I normally work face-to-face, particularly in the initial stages of our supervisory relationship, this may not always be possible - particularly in response to specific circumstances such as the Covid19 outbreak - and I currently only offer supervision sessions online.

My first session

Normally we’d arrange a time to have a brief phone conversation, to explore whether we might be a good ‘fit’ before making an initial appointment. 

Ideally, I prefer to work in person until a firm supervisory relationship has been established, although that isn’t always practicable;

Before our initial meeting – I’d ask you to provide some preliminary information, including:

• a brief summary of your training and of what brought you to counselling/therapeutic training in the first instance

• your professional training, student and other membership of professional bodyies, and the modalityies on which you draw

• any additional training/specialisms on which you draw on your client work, including previous personal/professional/work experience

• information about CPD you have done in the past couple of years, and any for which you have plans

• an outline of your counselling/therapeutic practice - the context in which you practice (private/charity/public sector and how long you have been practising), range and number of clients

• any themes or current ‘working edges’ in your current client work

• previous supervision and what you’ve gained from the supervisory relationship

• current/previous therapy (including approximate dates and modality(ies), and a brief idea of what has been helpful/unhelpful in relation your personal and professional growth

In our initial session we can explore these areas in more depth, and you’re welcome to ask any questions you may have of me, to enable us mutually to decide whether it would be good for us to work together..

My charge is £65 for each 50-minute supervision session, including the preliminary session, payable one week in advance.
