Availability

I currently have some availability within my practice. I usually offer parent sessions within school hours, but can also some evening sessions. I have limited sessions available for children/young people after school hours.

About me and my therapy practice

I work in person with children who are experiencing emotional difficulties and are struggling with their mental health, as well as working with their families. I am able to support young people up to 18 years old. I have a Master’s degree in Integrative Child Psychotherapy, and together with years of experience of working and training within CAMHS (NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), I am able to support children and young people with a variety of different presenting needs. I use my integrative training to gradually build up an understanding of each child’s unique set of difficulties, drawing on thinking from theories of attachment and early development, neuroscience, psychoanalytic theory and trauma-informed practice.

My creative approach to therapy is child-led and enables me to sensitively support children to explore, identify and express thoughts and feelings in the way in which they prefer. Sand-tray work, puppets, clay, movement, art, music and talking are just some of the ways we might work together. Positive change is supported within a safe therapeutic relationship, where I provide emotional regulation through an attitude of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy (Dan Hughes’ PACE approach), helping children to work through their emotional difficulties.

Children’s wider relationships are also considered in my therapeutic approach. Recognising that children’s lives are rooted in their family, and how these relationships can be so influential, I offer a confidential space for parents and carers to reflect and think together with me about presenting concerns and how parents can support their child. The support of parents, carers and wider networks in a child’s life can be so beneficial for children and young people. I can offer this as a stand-alone intervention or alongside a child’s sessions.

Practice description

I offer an Initial Parent/Carer Consultation (see below), and following this we will agree a plan going forwards. This could include further parent sessions, child sessions, and on occasions, signposting to other services.

When a child is seen, an assessment period of at least 3 sessions will be arranged, followed by a parent/carer review session, giving an opportunity for both your child and myself to see if we are able to work effectively together.

Treatment Sessions:

• Sessions run for 50 minutes and are usually once a week.

• Sessions take place at the same time and on the same day each week.

• Sessions run throughout the year.

Duration of therapy:

I provide both long-term and short-term therapy. We can discuss the duration of our work together during our initial session.

My first session

Initial Parent/Carer Consultation:

An initial consultation is offered first, and this is a longer appointment because of all the information that needs to be exchanged. It is an opportunity for you to share your concerns about your child and to get to know each other a little, including giving you a chance to learn more about the way in which I work. I will be interested in understanding more about your family, ask about your child’s early development, and seek to understand key events and relationships in their life. This will help me to form a more comprehensive picture of the difficulties that are being experienced. I will offer my initial thoughts regarding therapy to you, and together we will decide on next steps forward. This longer session is charged accordingly:

• Initial Parent Consultation (up to 1hour 45 mins): £120

• Subsequent Parent Sessions (50 minutes): £80
