About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor and play therapist, supporting children, young people, adults, parents and whole families.
With children and young children I help to process their feelings and emotions. I use a variety of different ways to do this, playing, talking, a sand tray, art or games.
I provide a space where children can be heard and help them to make sense of their feelings and experiences.
With adults, I help them make sense of relationships in their life, explore past events as well as traumatic experiences or unhelpful coping strategies. I can do this creatively as well, enable a different perspective to be explored.
With parents, I use the Non-violence Resistance programme to help put in different boundaries with their children and encourage change in their interactions with their child(ren).
With families I provide a space for them to come together and reflect on their relationship, explore the challenges they experience and help to navigate a way forward. this can be done with individual as well as collective sessions.
Practice description
I am client focused, taking their lead from the things they want to talk about and do. I use psycho-education to explain, for example how their brains work, how to stay regulated and how to calm themselves down in stressful situations.
Sessions with children are enjoyable and fun, whilst also exploring how they are feeling and helping them to make sense of events, relationships and their lives.
I regularly review how the work is going with parents and carers, so you are up to date with how things are going.
With adults, sessions are still very client focused - the sessions are theirs and they are the expert on their own life. I will help guide and navigate them through.
My first session
In my first session with children I agree our ground rules for the sessions, in a child friendly way, and also understand from them what they want to get out of our time together.
With adults it is much the same, the therapeutic relationship with all people being the most important thing - so how clients relate and connect with me is vital.
