About me and my therapy practice
I remember when I first reached out for counselling help, it was one of the scariest things I had to do. Therefore, if you are feeling a little (or a lot) daunted or worried about the next step, I am here to tell you that it is totally understandable, and you are not alone! I can be here to help and guide you through your choices at your own pace.
My name is Sarah, (she/her) and I live in one of the Canterbury villages in Kent (UK). I was always cynical about therapy. However, after several personal years of counselling, I was inspired to retrain as a counsellor because of the positive benefits it had on my life. I am now fully qualified and had experience of working with adult clients with a range of mental health issues, as well as being a listener at a national charity for perinatal mental health issues.
What can I provide? I think of all the things I would want in my counsellor and I try to mirror these with my clients. I aim to be curious, kind, honest, warm and most importantly, I want you to feel you have a real human being supporting you by your side, with personality, individualism and (dare I say it) imperfections!
I offer a safe space for LGBTQ+ and am HIV/Aids and sex worker allied. I can also offer wheelchair access for face-to-face clients.
My training: So here comes the technical part, I am trained in integrative therapy. This means I have studied different theories and concepts about the human self, so when I work with you, I will adopt my approach to your needs and feelings. This includes concepts such as Person Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. However, underlying all of my practise is the belief that the relationship I have with you as my client will be the most important part of the work we undertake together.
My experience: I have experienced counselling adults for a range of different issues (as listed in my profile).
Practice description
What to expect: Counselling usually takes place once a week (although I can offer flexibility here if needed) and our work together will be open-ended, meaning that you are not limited to a fixed amount of sessions. Sessions are 50-minutes long, and you can choose to have sessions:
-face-to-face,
-online via Zoom,
-over the phone.
So you like what you hear, do you want to take the next step?
So you like what you hear, do you want to take the next step? This can be a daunting part of the process, but I am here to help and to make it as easy as possible. I offer a free 30-minute, relaxed introductory meeting over the phone. We can use this time to get to know each other and see if it feels comfortable to work together, with absolutely no obligation for you to feel like you have to begin work with me. If you decide you would like to receive counselling with me, we can schedule in a day and time, and discuss how you would like to have your sessions. Details can be found at:

My first session
Once we have had an introductory meeting, we can both decide if it feels right for you and comfortable to arrange our first session. You can have this session:
-face-to-face,
-online via Zoom,
-over the phone.
This session will be chargeable at the agreed rate, and we will use this session to agree on how we will work together, what expectations we will be agreeing to, and talk about any questions and concerns you have. We will also use the time for me to get to know you better, find out your goals for therapy, and begin to look at the issues that are worrying you.
