About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Sergio, and I fundamentally believe in the power of holding space. This means that I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, ideas—all parts of yourself—without judgment.
My background is in integrative therapy, which means I’ve been specifically trained to draw from a variety of approaches to suit the unique needs of each individual. I often draw from the Internal Family Systems (IFS) framework, somatic and body-based principles, psychodynamic theory and archetypal transpersonal imagery to provide a more holistic process.
I’ve worked with people facing a wide range of challenges. I have a particular interest in depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety disorders and abuse. I also have a passion for psychosexual issues, including the exploration of gender identity, sexuality, sex work, and challenging sexual behaviour, as well as navigating one’s relationship to kink and BDSM.
I should also mention that I’ve worked as a teacher for over ten years, and I understand the unique pressures that come with the profession. I offer teachers a supportive space to explore challenges like burnout, stress, work/life balance or a space to consider career changing options.
Additionally, I’m committed to being neurodivergent-aware, ensuring my practice is welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
Whether you're dealing with life’s challenges, looking to grow, working through mental health issues, or exploring your identity, I’m here to provide a safe and supportive space. My goal is to help you discover your strengths, build resilience, and find balance. I believe therapy can create meaningful change, and I’m dedicated to supporting you on your journey to well-being.
I invite you to explore my website to learn more about my services and how I can assist you on your journey.
Practice description
The therapeutic space is quite unique. At times, it can feel like the world is shifting; other times, it may seem like nothing is happening. How this space is used varies for each client—some prefer a self-led approach, while others need more direction. As an integrative therapist, I adapt to different styles and personalities to meet your needs.
Over time, I’ve developed a framework that helps clients navigate therapy more effectively:
1. Discovery
In the beginning, we focus on understanding what brought you to therapy. Together, we explore your concerns and build trust. Unless urgent intervention is needed (e.g., panic attacks or abusive situations), this stage is about ‘getting to know’ both the issue and each other.
2. Understanding
As therapy progresses, we begin forming a clearer picture of what’s going on. This involves exploring your past, identifying triggers, and linking them to your current experiences. This process, known as formulation, helps map out your patterns and challenges. Psychoeducation may also be offered, learning tools —like how stress affects your body or strategies to manage triggers.
3. Unearthing
In this stage, we delve deeper to uncover the root causes of your challenges. This might include exploring thoughts, beliefs, or emotions that influence your patterns. While unearthing can feel intense, it’s often freeing, helping you process unresolved feelings and break free from unhelpful cycles.
4. Integration
Once deeper insights have been gained, the focus shifts to applying them in your daily life. Integration bridges the gap between awareness and action, helping you create healthier behaviours, manage emotions, and align your life with your values.
5. Sustainability
Finally, we focus on maintaining progress and building resilience. This stage equips you with tools to navigate challenges independently hopefully so you leave therapy feeling confident, empowered, and ready to continue your journey on your terms.
My first session
The first session is what we call an assessment session, and it’s designed to help us get an overview of your life and the concerns that brought you to therapy. During this session, I’ll ask more general questions about various aspects of your life, including your background, relationships, work, and current challenges. This helps me understand the bigger picture and how we can best work together moving forward.
It’s worth noting that the first session will feel a bit different from regular therapy sessions. While future sessions will focus more on exploring and working through your concerns, the assessment session is more structured and information-focused. It’s an important step in laying the foundation for our work together.
The session will last 50 minutes, like all subsequent sessions, and is priced the same. It’s a chance for you to ask questions, share what feels important, and get a sense of whether this approach feels right for you. Remember, there’s no pressure—this is as much about you deciding if therapy with me is a good fit as it is about starting to understand your concerns.
