About me and my therapy practice
I am a person centred counsellor, offering a calm space for you to discuss things in your life you might be struggling with, to live the life you want.
I base my practice on empathy, honesty, and a non-judgemental approach, and I aim to use my skills to provide an opportunity for you to reflect on things in your life you might want to change. I can support you to explore your situation in a safe and confidential environment.
I am experienced in working creatively using poetry, creative writing, or art, to enable you to explore your feelings. Sometimes it can be difficult to say how we feel, and it can be easier to use art or poetry/story writing to discuss our feelings.
I am a qualified 'Journal to the Self' instructor, which means I can support you in developing journaling techniques to help you make sense of, and process your feelings about life.
Practice description
I aim to work with kindness and empathy. Before I was a counsellor I was a nurse, and have over 30 years of nursing experience. As a nurse, I was always fascinated by the power of the therapeutic relationship and how empathy, kindness and caring could help someone to feel less vulnerable and more in control of their situation. This passion was the drive for me to become a counsellor and support individuals to make change in their lives.
I have worked in several settings, including Macmillan Cancer Care, offering counselling for people living with or bereaved through cancer. I have experience of phone therapy, offering support for people who wanted to lose weight. I currently work in person with people who are survivors of childhood abuse. I also work for Cruse Bereavement Support, helping people who are experiencing grief. My experience helps me to support people with a broad range of needs.
My first session
I offer a 20 minute introductory phone/online appointment free of charge, when we can discuss your needs before you decide whether or not counselling is for you.
