About me and my therapy practice

Thank you for exploring the possibility of therapy with me. I’m glad you’ve taken what I know feels like a daunting leap.

I remember when I was looking, admitting that I needed help to navigate what was happening in my life, and what was going on in my head. Looking at lists of therapists online wondering what these profiles meant, where to go and where to start.

I want to offer you a free initial consultation to see if you would like to work together.

Firstly, what are my credentials? I have been working with people experiencing individual and family challenges for over twenty years.

I hold the following qualifications:

BA (Hons) Social Work

Post Graduate Dipolma in Applied Mental Health

Clinical Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy

I started a career in social care as a family support worker, working with vulnerable children and families and dealing with issues such as family violence, domestic abuse, addiction, mental health, disability, learning disability, separated migrant children, the travelling community, young carers and young people in the care system.

I went on to qualify as a social worker working with vulnerable children and families, adults affected by addictions, HIV and hepatitis C, adults with mental health difficulties within the community and in hospital, as well as out of hours crisis work.

My work has given me the privilege to work with people in the most challenging of circumstances, many of whom have experienced really challenging times in their lives, including experiencing abuse and trauma.

Difficult life experiences and trauma mean different things to different people. Maybe you think you haven’t experienced trauma, but you’re having a really tough time. Perhaps you're feeling lost? Perhaps feeling like you’re in a black hole that you can’t get out of? Perhaps feeling like everyone is making strides forward whilst you feel stood still? Maybe you want to become more self aware or undertake some personal development?

Practice description

I am a Person Centred and Experiential therapist. What does this mean for you?

This means that together we will create a space and environment where you can feel safe to explore whatever brings you to therapy, without judgment, and being empathic and understanding. My aim is to support you navigate what is happening for you, support you feeling safe to sit with your vulnerability and explore your feelings whilst using the therapy relationship to explore what this means for you. The process can be challenging, scary, exposing, enlightening, liberating and life saving, but helps you find a way through to make progress and make peace.

It is important to acknowledge that counselling and psychotherapy is for everyone. No matter what your background, circumstances, age, race, culture, gender identity, sex, sexuality, religion or belief or ability. I have undertaken my therapy training within gender services and have supported people who are gender questioning, gender diverse, trans and non binary. I want you know that my practice is a safe space for you.

I offer online and face to face appointments to suit your preference and comfort.

Some people prefer the comfort of being at home and online in their own environment, it might be more convenient or feel safer for you.

Some people like to have a neutral space to bring everything to so they can unpack and leave things at the therapy room, or have a physical space that is just theirs.

Either way, the choice is yours and I look forward to being in touch with you.
