About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I offer a nurturing, sensitive and safe way of working which helps support you in exploring difficult personal issues and feelings that may be troubling you and preventing you from moving forward with your life.
Through the talking process, I will support you in developing an understanding of your emotional world, your behaviours and thinking. We will work together to help you gain insight and perspective and to access ways of strengthening your being so that you feel more able to cope with life’s challenges. I am here to support you and to help you decide the best way forward.
My main areas of experience are:
- trauma work - this has been gained from working in an agency supporting survivors (both female and male) of sexual assault and abuse, and domestic violence, including historical child sexual abuse. I have also supported clients who have experienced different forms of abuse such as emotional and physical abuse, and coercive control
- grief and loss work - I have worked with a bereavement agency where I received training to support people who are bereaved. I have been able to apply my knowledge and experience from this work to the many different types of losses that people experience during their life
- workplace issues - where people may be struggling with issues such as bullying, discrimination, workplace stress or redundancy.
Practice description
My training has been as an integrative counsellor which means I draw on a blend of different counselling approaches, tools and techniques. In this way, I can tailor the work we do together to your individual needs. The integrative model recognises that everyone is unique. The cornerstone of my integrative work is the person centred approach and that means the relationship between us is the most important aspect – this allows for the emotional work to be done.
I care deeply about human connection and work with clients to understand how they may be feeling a disconnection to others, and then help them develop an understanding of themselves and who they are to others.
I have a strong interest in how the mind and body work together, and how many of our physical conditions are responses to the trauma and distress we have experienced in our lives. I can offer clients ways of soothing their nervous system when symptoms of anxiety and nervousness arise, using meditation, breath work and grounding techniques.
I work mainly face to face from a counselling room in Central Milton Keynes and I have a number of sessions available on line working on Zoom.
