About me and my therapy practice

Hello my name is Sally. I am a qualified integrative psychotherapist for children and adolescents, holding an MA from Roehampton University. I work with young people up to age 18 and have a specialist interest in helping children with eating disorders.

I currently work with CAMHS clients, providing counselling to children according to their individual emotional needs, helping them cope in today’s complicated and stressful world. In my practice, I utilise theories from a number of models including humanistic, psychodynamic and CBT, as well as offering play therapy where appropriate for younger clients and using creative arts and games. I also work as a psychotherapist in a specialist eating disorders unit in London. I have experience of offering an integrative approach (including CBT-E) for eating disorders, as well as supporting with neurodiversity, trauma, and self harm which often coexist.

Practice description

I believe that the key to successful counselling and psychotherapy with children and teenagers is to build a a strong honest relationship based on trust. I try to engage young people whatever their age by being warm, approachable and curious about their lives and experiences. I am always professional but can adjust my approach and personal style according to the needs of the child in front of me. Talking therapy is not appropriate for all children and so we will find other ways to connect and communicate.

I am able to offer face to face sessions or online according to my clients’ needs and would plan to see each child at the same time each week for 45 minutes.

The format for eating disorder work may be slightly different in that young people often initially need to be seen twice a week and sometimes also monitored by their GP. This will be discussed on an individual basis.

My first session

Prior to beginning therapy a client or their parent will be offered a free 20 minute telephone conversation to discuss the reasons for coming to counselling and the individual needs of the child. Confidentiality and safeguarding policies will also be discussed.

In our first full session I will welcome the young person and make them feel comfortable in the therapy room or online. We will explore their personal goals for counselling or just be led by their interests if these are not evident. Following this initial assessment a number of further sessions will be suggested and regular reviews planned.

The format for eating disorder work will be individualised according to the young person’s presentation and needs. A full assessment will be carried out and a plan of therapeutic work agreed with clients/ carers.
