About me and my therapy practice
Hello! I’m Emma, a fully qualified BA (Hons) Integrative Therapist. I offer counselling and psychotherapy in a safe and confidential environment, where we can build trust and openness together during our weekly sessions.
I believe at the heart of my practice are the relationships I build with my clients. I do not hold the answers, but I will work with you collaboratively and be alongside you as we empathically explore your feelings, thoughts and personal experiences. I will support and help you manage difficulties, so you may develop a healthier relationship with yourSELF, others, and your environment. I offer this in a non-shaming, non-judgmental, and safe space. I bring my real, true, authentic self, to every session, which is warm, personable, and down-to-earth. I aspire for my clients to feel comfortable being themselves, allowing them to be truly seen and heard.
Practice description
Cultural Humility is embedded throughout my approach as a therapist. I recognise and respect the inherent worth and value of diverse cultures. I appreciate intersectionality and the complex ways in which different aspects of a person's identity (race, gender, class, sexual orientation, physical ability, etc) interact and impact their experiences, opportunities, and challenges.
I take an integrative approach to therapy, utilising a variety of modalities, including but not limited to Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and Humanistic Therapy. I tailor my approach to each client, as we are all unique, to develop ways that work for you. That could mean a different psychotherapeutic approach for different issues you bring, and/or different development stages you are in.
I have helped clients with a wide range of presentations and mental health issues. I have a particular interest in working with attachment issues, cultural issues, racial trauma, relationship issues, trauma, and difficult childhood experiences.
My first session
Reaching out for support can evoke a range of different and sometimes conflicting emotions, add to the process of selecting the right therapist, and it can feel quite overwhelming. So, it’s important to find a therapist with whom you feel at ease, and comfortable, as this can help make opening up less daunting.
This is why I invite and encourage you to reach out for a free 20-minute call, where we can have a chat about your reasons for seeking therapy and your goals for your therapeutic journey. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and gauge whether you feel it will be a good fit to work with me, there is absolutely no pressure to make a decision during the call.
Should you choose for us to work together, our first session will focus on getting to know you better. We will review our agreement and I will ask you some questions as part of an assessment to ensure we can collaborate effectively. Together, we will delve into your background/history, family dynamics, current challenges, and therapeutic goals. This process will offer valuable insights into your feelings and, most importantly, the support you truly deserve.
