About me and my therapy practice
My approach is person-centred and rooted in the belief that fundamentally, you are the expert of you, your experiences and your feelings. Your feelings are valid, and therapy with me is about building a reparative, therapeutic relationship, where I will listen to you without judgement and guide you towards a better understanding of you. I will meet you where you are at, be with you as you unpack any difficult experiences and feelings that may arise, and guide you towards an empowered sense of change. This way of working enables you to gain deeper self-awareness, self-acceptance, and empowers you to navigate life’s challenges and move you towards your personal goals. This will be done at your pace and I will be there alongside you.
Whether it’s anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, or just a sense that you do not feel good enough, despite your best efforts. Whatever the reason, I understand it can leave you feeling incredibly isolated and alone and as if no one seems to understand you or how you are feeling, which more often than not, heightens our anxiety and low mood. In my experience, some of these problems are often interlinked and so getting to the root of what is going on for you, can feel overwhelming to navigate.
I believe that having a safe space to talk and work through the difficult thoughts and feelings that might arise for you, with someone impartial to your life, has the healing power to transform how you think and feel about yourself, how you navigate life's challenges, and how you relate to others.
Practice description
My special areas of interest include grief and loss, believing that it is important to recognise that grief is not exclusive to the loss of someone close to us. It could be the ending of a relationship, loss of a job, or maybe a part of who we are. It all can feel painful, life-changing, and difficult to navigate.
My other areas of interest include transactional analysis and attachment theory, which both influence and inform my way of working.
I will sometimes offer to work creatively, or introduce theoretical models (sometimes referred to as 'psychological education') to develop your understanding of your experiences, but this will only ever be an option. I will follow your lead.
My first session
In the first instance after receiving your enquiry, I aim to reply within 24-48 hours where I will offer a free 30 minute introductory phone call where you can ask any questions you might have, establish your needs and expectations of counselling and of me, and explore the possibility of working together.
From there, we can arrange our first session either face-to-face or online. The first session consists of negotiating our working agreement and exploring in more depth, your feelings and experiences.
