About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Jane, founder of Your Space Counselling and Psychotherapy. Having personal experience of the difficulties life throws at us I trained to be a counsellor to give back and am passionate about giving others the strength, self belief, support and acceptance we all need to be able to grow, change and flourish. Whatever you are going through right now be it bereavement, depression, anxiety, self esteem issues, stress or things in the past that remain with you and are holding you back I am here to listen without judgement and be beside you working together to find your way through. Your Space offers just that your own safe space to be yourself and bring whatever you want to counselling.

My approach is humanistic, person centred at heart but I work pluralistically drawing on other techniques as I collaborate with clients to tailor therapy to their needs.  I believe the client/counsellor relationship is key and foster a warm, accepting, non judgemental space where I celebrate individuality and encourage clients to come as their true self.  I am influenced by social construction and narrative and explore the significance of words and the social norms we come to follow for whatever reason.  My aim is to explore these social influences be they family, friends, the media/society and how they shape us as people impacting our identity, behaviour and interactions with others.  My aim is to provide a supportive space for clients to explore who they are past, present and future.

I am happy to also simply listen and stand beside clients who just want to tell their story.  My aim is to empower, give clients strength and feel heard.

Practice description

I am person centred at heart but work pluralistically drawing on what works for each client collaboratively at your own pace. I am influenced by narrative and social construction and believe in the impact other people, culture and society has on us and we can explore this (be it family/friends/the media). Past, present and future all play a role as does our environment and how we interact within it.  Drawing on my understanding of both psychology and counselling as we get to know each other we can pinpoint key areas where these beliefs that are put upon us or that we buy into are holding you back or have impacted how you see yourself or your expectations of self and/or others.

It may simply be you need someone to listen, to offload and I am happy to simply be there for this as a one off or longer term.  I see each client as unique and respect their needs and aim to encourage each client to celebrate this and not hide behind what society or other people want/expect.

Your Space is LGBTQI+ friendly and also strives to accommodate neurodiversity.  Having studied psychology I have an understanding of how the brain works and look to work holistically, the more I learn about you as a person, the more we can explore how you became to be who you are and how you can get where you want to be.

I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully joining you on your journey to work towards what you want to gain from counselling.

My first session

I offer a reduced rate initial meeting for 1 hour at the cost of £10.  The aim of the session is for us to get to know each other.  It gives us both the opportunity to see if we are a good match, you can tell me about yourself and what brings you to therapy and ask me any questions you may have about therapy and how we may work together going forward.
