About me and my therapy practice
As a dedicated and compassionate therapist, I offer a flexible approach, tailoring my sessions to either Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Gestalt Therapy, depending on what best suits your needs. My goal is to provide the most effective support for your unique journey towards mental well-being.
Tailored Approach
I believe in a client-centred approach, and I am committed to using the most effective methods tailored to your needs. Whether you need the structured guidance of CBT or the holistic exploration of Gestalt Therapy, I am here to support you in a way that best facilitates your growth.
Practice description
Welcome! I am James, a dedicated and compassionate therapist specializing in OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) and anxiety disorders. With extensive training in both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Gestalt Therapy, I am equipped to provide a comprehensive and tailored approach to your mental health needs.
My Approaches:-Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): This evidence-based approach focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviours. Through CBT, I help clients develop practical skills to manage and reduce their symptoms, fostering long-term change and resilience.
-Gestalt Therapy: This humanistic approach emphasizes self-awareness and personal responsibility. Gestalt Therapy encourages clients to explore their experiences in the present moment, promoting a deeper understanding of themselves and their emotions.
Specialisations:
As an OCD and anxiety specialist, I am deeply committed to helping individuals navigate these often debilitating conditions. My personal experience with OCD and anxiety provides me with a unique perspective and empathy. I understand the overwhelming nature of these disorders, and I am here to offer support, guidance, and effective strategies to manage and overcome them.
Why Choose Me?
Having experienced OCD and anxiety first-hand, I know what it's like to feel trapped by intrusive thoughts and intense worry. This personal journey has fuelled my passion for helping others who are struggling with similar issues. I bring not only professional expertise but also genuine understanding and empathy to my practice.
My first session
Before beginning sessions with me, I offer a free, 20-minute, no-obligation phone consultation where you can ask any questions you might have about the counselling process. This is an excellent opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to determine if my counselling services are the right fit for your needs.
Warm Welcome and Comfortable Environment
When you arrive for your first session, you’ll be greeted warmly and made to feel comfortable. The counselling space is designed to be a safe, private, and non-judgmental environment where you can express yourself freely.
Introduction and Building Rapport
We’ll start with a brief introduction. I’ll share a little about my background, qualifications, and counselling approach. This is also a time for you to share any initial thoughts or feelings you have about starting counselling.
Understanding Your Needs and Goals
We’ll discuss what brings you to counselling. You can share your story, concerns, and what you hope to achieve through our sessions. This helps me understand your unique situation and tailor our work together to best support your needs.
Confidentiality and Boundaries
I’ll explain the confidentiality policy and the limits of confidentiality. This includes discussing scenarios where information might need to be shared, such as risks of harm to yourself or others. Setting clear boundaries helps build trust and ensures a safe counselling relationship.
Exploring Your Background
To get a comprehensive understanding of your situation, we’ll explore relevant aspects of your background. This might include your personal history, relationships, work, and any previous experiences with counselling or mental health support.
We’ll then discuss what counselling involves, including the frequency and length of sessions, as well as the roles and responsibilities of both client and counsellor. This is a collaborative process, and setting clear expectations helps ensure a productive and supportive therapeutic relationship.
