About me and my therapy practice

Hello, My name is Sharn.

I appreciate that taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting and take courage. Whether you're facing challenges, seeking personal growth, or simply need someone to talk to, I'm here to support you. Feel free to reach out to schedule a session or to inquire about any questions you may have.

A little about me- I am a dedicated and compassionate counsellor committed to supporting you on your journey toward emotional well-being and personal growth. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and any challenges you may face. My counselling approach is grounded with a person-centered base, this means that I encourage autonomy and empowerment within my clients. My model of working draws upon other theories such as;

Psychodynamic- looking at how our past experiences impact on our everyday lives whether that be consciously or unconsciously.

Transactional analysis -looking at patterns of how individuals relate to themselves, others, and the world around them.

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy -looking at and challenging patterns within thoughts and behaviour.

This holistic model encourages an understanding and exploration of thoughts, processes and emotional concerns.

In our counselling sessions, you can expect a confidential and non-judgemental space to openly discuss your thoughts and feelings. I am here to listen attentively and work collaboratively to enhance self-awareness, develop coping strategies and build a foundation for positive change to occur.

Seeking help is a sign of strength, and I'm here to walk alongside you on your path to healing and self-discovery.

Practice description

I believe it is you that knows what you need and I attempt to be as flexible as I can with the delivery of sessions. This is something we can discuss ahead of booking.

I practice mainly in-person but also work online and via telephone if that is your preferred way of working. Sessions usually take place on a weekly basis, at the same time and on the same day each week. Though, I understand for some this is not possible so I am able to offer some flexibility around this.

I offer both short and long-term therapy dependant on the clients needs. I also offer an open door policy for when we finish working together. This means that if after working together you want to come back for a couple of sessions as an 'MOT' to check in on your emotional wellbeing or because you have had something happen in your life that you are wanting to process then you are able to.

My first session

Ahead of the first session I offer a free 30-minute consultation on the telephone. This is so that I am able to gain a brief understanding of what has brought you to counselling. This free consultation will also provide you with the opportunity to ask any questions you have, get a sense of me and decide whether you think we can work well together.

I encourage all potential clients to speak with a couple of counsellors before making a decision on who to go with. This is because, I believe, the most important aspect of counselling is the relationship. If the relationship isn't there then it will be difficult for you to open up about things that are potentially pokey for you.

The first session is really about getting familiar with the things that have brought you to counselling and what you are hoping to gain from the sessions.
