About me and my therapy practice

My belief as a practitioner is that as humans we are inherently good, but our circumstances and environment can impact how we view ourselves and others. Often, a person seeks therapy because they feel in conflict, moving between thinking about what they ‘should be’ and what they think they ‘are’. Events throughout life can cause us to challenge these scripts and can bring barriers and obstacles that prevent us living as our authentic selves. My role as counsellor is to offer a non-judgemental, empathic space where these thoughts can be explored and reflected upon safely and collaboratively.

Practice description

I have been working in various roles within the field of mental health since 2018. I began as a volunteer facilitating art therapy groups at Mind; through to working as a practitioner in an acute inpatient ward; counselling patients and families in a hospice setting; and now my current role as a humanistic counsellor in private practice. Prior to this, I was a hairdresser for over 20 years – a role which sparked my curiosity for understanding people and how an individual perceives and views themselves.

I work with an integrative approach, utilising theories from Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis modalities. I am able to work with a variety of issues and have particular experience/interest in bereavement and loss, and individuals receiving diagnosis of ADHD/autism later in life. I am a LGBTQ+ affirmative practitioner and have experience in working with individuals experiencing issues and challenges around identity and orientation.
