About me and my therapy practice
Hi there! My name is Sadie, and I'm a qualified integrative counsellor and a registered member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy). This means I have many different theories and counselling tools I use based on what I feel may best help to allow you the space you need to flourish.
I began my counselling career after having struggles with my own mental health and seeking out counselling. It had such a profound impact on me and my life that I decided I really wanted to be able to offer people the same kind of space and help that I was offered when I most needed it.
I strongly believe in creating a space where you feel as safe and comfortable as possible. No issue is too big, or too small. There is never any judgement in the room, and I will be guided by you to understand what you need and want from our sessions. Sometimes, that's just a space to be able to share your feelings and be seen and heard, which can be very powerful in itself. Other times, you may wish for more guidance along the way.
We will work together to achieve whatever your goals may be. This has the potential to change throughout sessions, and we will regularly check in to ensure you are happy with where we are and see if we need to make any changes to the way we’re working together.
I work within the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ ethical framework, have regular supervision and am fully insured. I am continually working to update my skills and understanding.
Practice description
My main philosophy in life, and a belief that I hold very close is that people are good, and that often we don't know or realise the depth of impact from various life experiences. Within my sessions, I offer opportunities to explore this and understand the factors that may be in play with how different parts of you, your personality, or your behaviours may have developed. I will always hear your experiences from a non-judgemental and empathetic position and from there, we will work to find out what you most need.
The main theories I believe in and use are Person Centred, Transactional Analysis and Inner Child. Person Centred essentially means that I will work in a way that is centred around you and what you need as each person is different and has different wants and needs from counselling. It's also about creating a space together where you feel safe and comfortable to share openly in order to create the right conditions for growth. Transactional Analysis is a theory that looks at different transactions/interactions within our relationships to try and understand better how we interact and react in different situations. And Inner Child is based around the different parts of us that maybe haven't been fully nurtured and therefore may leave us with many uncomfortable feelings about how we feel and behave. I have found that these different theories can be employed in a number of ways to help clients to better understand themselves and develop their self-awareness and self-compassion in order to work through trauma and hurt, and grow in whatever way they feel they would like to. And additionally, as a Person Centred, Integrative counsellor, there are lots of other ways we can look at things in order to ensure the sessions are right for you and what you're needing at that time.
My first session
Instead of offering a first session right off the bat, I would encourage you to have a free of charge 20 minute introductory video call with me where we can chat about what it is you're looking for and you can get to know a little bit more about how I work and what I'm like as a person.
This allows you to have a bit of a better understanding of what our sessions would look like before booking in with me. This also allows you to get a bit of a feel for whether you feel I am the right counsellor for you.
It also allows me to have a good understanding of whether I feel I'm the right counsellor for you, and if not then potentially signpost you elsewhere if I feel I know a fellow counsellor who may be better able to work with you in the area you're hoping for!
From there, I would ask if you would like to book in and send you across a client information form, along with the counselling contract and privacy policy so you can make sure you're happy with all the information before we start.
Our first couple of sessions would then be a bit of 'getting to know you' so that we can understand what it is you're hoping to get from our sessions and begin to build some trust and a safe space for you to share comfortably.
