About me and my therapy practice
Hello! I’m Ian, a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ registered Person-Centered Therapy (PCT) counsellor. I provide therapy remotely through video/telephone calls. Much of my practice revolves around providing a safe environment free of moral judgements with the goal of developing your own independence and self-esteem. Our work will place emphasis on self-reflection and honesty, achieving that through dialogue and various exercises as required.
If you are:
- Anxious about big changes in your life
- Afraid of what’s happening in the present because of past experiences
- Finding yourself stuck in your relationships
- Feeling lonely and isolated with no one to talk to
It could help to discuss them with someone who can help you get to the root causes of these difficulties, or signpost you to the best possible care you can get. PCT as I practice it prioritizes our mutual trust and comfort, so I’m happy to offer a free initial consultation to answer any questions you have about my services before any decisions are made!
Practice description
Whatever the cause of your worries and distress in the moment, it is important that you are able to identify how you are feeling and why you are feeling that way. Our sessions will be tailored to developing your self-understanding as well as your self-esteem so you may then enact change in your life.
Your understanding of the events and emotions of your past can be reevaluated, and new understandings achieved that can inform your future emotional growth. That comes with a restructuring of yourself on a fundamental emotional level that can be pretty stressful.
My typical clients face issues like isolation and depression that comes about with decreasing control over their lives. In this case, we will try to identify those points of helplessness and develop positive coping mechanisms. This will be achieved through self-reflection and re-examination on the past and present events in your life that have led you here.
I want to help you feel safe and feel like you can be yourself in the therapy session. At the end, we aim to give you the emotional capacity to face your past and its consequences, then change them to suit your life.
My first session
Therapy can be a radically new experience for some, and no one likes going into it blind. My first session is a free, no-obligation phone/video call that I will use to:
- Get to know you
- Discuss specific issues/stressors (if any)
- Take assessments if necessary
- Develop a therapy contract
- Set therapeutic goals
A therapy contract outlines what we can expect of each other as counsellor and counselee. This includes housekeeping items such as expectations of punctuality to legal matters like what confidentiality protections you are afforded.
The point of this initial call is to answer any questions you may have about therapy in general, what it is we do, and how we’re expected to get to that point. We’re here to get a feel of whether or not you think we can work together, which is ultimately the most important part of a therapeutic relationship.
