About me and my therapy practice
My practice is integrative and relational. Having trained as an integrative therapist means my training covered different ways of understanding people and different ways to work. There is no one size fits all. How I work is different with every person and will evolve as your needs change.
With a relational approach my aim is to be a human being first and a therapist second. We are all shaped by our social context and the sense of who we are is intimately entwined with our relationships. I believe working relationally means both the therapist and client contribute to the relationship -- therapy is a joint enterprise and a collaboration.
My role is not to label or diagnose. I work from the belief that our behaviour and thoughts are reactions shaped by our life experiences, both past and present. You are an expert on your own life. I will work with you to better understand yourself and widen the choices available to you. This may include bringing an understanding of your childhood, societal pressures and oppression and the impact these can have.
Growth and healing become possible when we learn more about ourselves. Part of this learning is to get to know our own emotional landscape, our own internal ‘weather.’ We all experience the world through our thoughts and emotions and also through our bodies. The body and mind are one emotional system. Many of us have been taught to ignore, or suppress, how we feel, perhaps due to our upbringing, societal expectations and/or because of traumatic experiences. For some, understanding and feeling how our emotions are expressed in the body can help us feel more at home and trusting in ourselves. This way of working is valuable for anyone, but is especially helpful for those who feel estranged from their body or have trouble regulating their feelings.
Practice description
I offer therapy that's grounded and welcoming. My aim is to build a relationship with you that feels safe and non-judgemental, so you feel understood and heard. This creates space to explore difficult feelings and thoughts, issues with relationships, or whatever is troubling you
My decision to train as a therapist has been inspired by my own experience of therapy. It can be daunting to sit in a chair opposite another human being and be vulnerable, but in my experience it can also be a rewarding and transformative experience, a gift that you give to yourself.
Prior to my therapy career, I spent over 20 years working in senior positions in the corporate sector working with top international consumer brands and in media, and so understand the pressures and complexity that corporate life can bring.
