About me and my therapy practice
I am a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist offering brief and long-term sessions online, I have worked in a variety of settings over the past 10 years working with issues such as, trauma, neurodiversity, alcohol/substance misuse, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, challenges related to identity and relationship challenges. Outside of my private practice I have developed therapeutic services for two private organisations working with children and families.
As a person-centred therapist I offer an empathetic non-judgemental space. I offer a space for you that you are able to share and explore issues without judgement or opinion taking up space.
I take a holistic approach to healing and wellness, recognising the complications within peoples lives and society. I work using an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens, it is important to me that you as the client do not feel oppressed, pathologized or misunderstood by me.
I may offer brief psychoeducation within sessions, this could be me helping you understand the neuroscience/psychology of what you are experiencing. I bring this into the session as I believe knowledge is power and feel that at times understanding of what you are experiencing can help ease feelings of shame or fear around this experience.
I may offer tools used within somatic practice within sessions. Somatic refers to the mind body connection and the understanding that unresolved trauma/emotions can be stored within the body and eased through movement or other more physical methods of expression.
Practice description
My practice is online with sessions lasting 50 minutes.
I recognise that it can be challenging to open up, I am gentle in my approach and hope to offer you a space you feel safe to open up within. I am nurturing and non-judgemental however I take a bottom up approach, and believe it is useful to get to the 'root' of issues. I may offer challenges or encourage you to work on deep difficult topics (should it be safe for you to engage in this).
My first session
Your first session will be a free brief consultation, you may share with me why you are seeking therapy and get a feel of who I am, they way I work and whether I feel like a right fit for you.
Following this consultation should you wish to pursue therapy with me the first session will be on zoom, lasting 50 minutes.
