About me and my therapy practice
Life and its many twists and turns can lead any of us to seek counselling and additional support at different stages. Finding someone who will listen to your words, thoughts, feelings is often enough to bring clarity and support us moving forward. Whether that is changing direction, changing patterns of behaviour or changing unhelpful thoughts - we sometimes just need extra support. I offer a safe, professional, friendly and confidential service to individuals. I tailor my service to each individual I work with.
I previously trained as a nurse (now non-practicing), worked in the NHS then in corporate world as a manager of people, supporting them as a line manager and mental health first aider. I am passionate about peoples mental health and wellbeing.
I am trained as an integrative counsellor with specialist qualifications as a cognitive behavioural therapist (CBT). In addition I am a qualified EMDR practitioner.
I am qualified in clinical hypnotherapy to enhance my clients experience and desire to change around phobia, trauma, weight loss, smoking cessation, IBS amongst some of the issues I can support with.
I also have significant experience supporting survivors of domestic and narcissistic abuse (trained at diploma level in this).
Practice description
I am very passionate about helping people achieve emotional health and wellbeing and guiding them to gain a clearer understanding of themselves. I work in a safe, non-judgmental, compassionate and empathetic manner. My goal is to help you find a way forward in the midst of the challenges faced.
Because of my training I am able to be flexible in my approach to the therapy I offer:
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) provides an understanding of how unhelpful thoughts affect emotions and behaviours and provides tools to change this.
Person Centred Therapy works on the humanistic belief that the client is inherently driven toward and has the capacity for growth and self-actualization.
Psychodynamic therapy can help explore past experience's and develop healthier ways of relating to those.
Hypnotherapy can be used alongside the above therapies.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) A structured therapy that encourages the client to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.
