About me and my therapy practice

I warmly welcome you to a nurturing and empathetic space where you can freely explore your thoughts and emotions.

With a Master's degree in Child Psychology, I draw from my training in EMDR and IFS, as well as other modalities, to offer avenues for exploring deeper issues should you wish to do so, or provide a safe haven for discussing your concerns and fostering self-awareness in a supportive environment. As an integrative psychotherapist, I am dedicated to tailoring each session to meet your specific needs and preferences.

I have experience working with individuals across different age groups, and I bring a compassionate and professional approach to our sessions. Whether you or your child are navigating feelings of overwhelm, stagnation, or confronting challenges impacting your daily life and well-being, I am committed to accompanying you on your journey towards a more fulfilling and enriched life."

My venture into psychotherapy began in 1998, initially as a psychologist in school settings and private practice in Brazil. Upon relocating to the UK, I transitioned into teaching, acquiring invaluable insights into the psychology of young people. I have experience counselling children and teenagers in schools, supporting them in addressing various challenges such as bullying, anxiety, panic attacks, self-harm, eating disorders and depression. Presently, I practice at a clinic focusing on adults and maintain a private practice catering to individuals of all ages.

Practice description

During a counselling session, you'll discover a safe and confidential space where you'll be encouraged to openly share your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Together, we'll focus on building a trusting relationship, allowing you to explore issues at your own pace while collaboratively reflecting on any challenges you may be facing.

Tailoring my approach to your specific needs and goals, we may work on problem-solving techniques or engage in exercises designed to help you navigate difficult situations and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Should you prefer, we can incorporate creative methods using various prompts to support you as you explore any issues you may have. Additionally, we may explore EMDR as a tool to process any traumas or difficulties you may be experiencing. Goal setting is also an option, personalised to align with what you hope to achieve through our sessions. Ultimately, the direction of our work is guided by your aspirations and needs.

My private practice is situated in a purpose-built room within the tranquil, leafy area of Epsom, offering convenient parking facilities. This serene and secluded environment fosters a sense of calmness and security, conducive to your therapeutic journey. Furthermore, I am fully equipped and qualified to conduct sessions online, ensuring flexibility and accessibility.

Embarking on this transformative journey begins with a simple step – reaching out to schedule a complimentary 30-minute initial consultation. This introductory session serves as an opportunity for us to connect and assess if we are a good fit. While the initial contact may feel daunting, seeking help is a sign of strength, and it's never too late to prioritise your emotional well-being.

My first session

For your first session, expect a warm welcome and a space where you can set the pace. While I typically prefer an extended initial session of around 1 ½ hours, this isn't a strict rule, and we can adjust based on your preferences and availability. Whether we meet online or in person, our session will begin with a discussion about your expectations, my approach, and the structure of our work together. We'll also establish a contract outlining our mutual commitments.

If you find verbal communication challenging, don't worry—we can explore alternative forms of expression such as using cards, drawings, painting, plasticine, or sand. These creative methods can be highly effective for individuals who struggle with verbal communication.

When working with children, I typically meet with parents or caregivers before the child's first session. I'll ask you to provide detailed information about your child, including their development and family dynamics. This helps me tailor our approach to better meet your child's needs and preferences.  Ultimately, my focus will be on creating a safe and supportive space where your child feels comfortable expressing themselves.

I understand that some may be concerned about the duration of psychotherapy. The length of therapy varies, depending on factors such as the nature of your concerns, your therapy goals, and your comfort level in addressing them. Short-term therapy, spanning a few weeks to months, can be effective for managing specific issues or acquiring immediate coping skills, such as stress management. Conversely, long-term therapy may be necessary for deeper exploration and lasting change, extending over several months or years, especially for complex or longstanding issues. Ultimately, the duration of therapy is tailored to your unique circumstances and goals, empowering you to decide what best suits you. The direction of our work is driven by your aspirations and needs, ensuring that our sessions are centred around your goals.
