About me and my therapy practice

I have worked with a variety of client presentations most recently supporting those with chronic health conditions, sexual violence survivors and those going through significant changes in their lives such as adjusting to their children leaving home and the peri-menopause/menopause.

I also have a strong clinical interest in young adults 18+ preparing for and adjusting to leaving home for the first time whether that be for higher education/university and living far away or other life challenges such as concerns about academic pressure, money and relationship issues.

Areas I have worked with separately or alongside other presentations include anxiety, stress, low mood, depression, parent-child relationships, employment issues, self-esteem issues, refugees, asylum seekers and boarding school survivors.

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor using the Person-Centred Approach (PCA) and drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) where appropriate.  I offer a warm and accepting environment free of judgment where my clients can explore their thoughts, feelings and concerns, discover their strengths and work towards emotional well-being.

Training and Qualifications:

Currently studying for L2 Autism Awareness

L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Integrative)

PG Certificate Counselling Skills (CBT route)

L2 Certificate Counselling Skills

MSc Health and Exercise Science

BSc Psychology 2.1 (hons)

Practice description

I believe that every client is an individual and adjust my practice to reflect this.  I am happy to work both short and long term, online or in person.  Some clients like just a few sessions to be heard and receive validation for what they are going through without judgement and to gain a new perspective.  Others value and benefit from longer term support which allows them to work at a deeper level and/or to address unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behaviours that may be maintaining the issue in order to find a new way forward.

During sessions I aim to create a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment which helps my clients to develop trust and feel safe to explore whatever it is that is concerning them.  Sessions are client led and/or collaborative where appropriate.  I don't tell clients what to do but I may at times challenge them.  With the client's consent I sometimes share information and tools that may be helpful.

My aim is to support the client to become more self-aware, help them recognise and tap into their own resources and empower them to work towards and achieve their goals and towards mental well-being.

Whilst I offer an open-ended approach it is important to note that it can take a number of sessions to build up a trusting relationship, so I would urge new clients to keep this in mind when starting with a new therapist.

My first session

After receiving an enquiry I will get in touch by phone to introduce myself and to learn a little about how I may support you and you can ask me any questions.   During this initial chat we can decide if we are a good 'fit.'  There is no charge for this and the conversation usually lasts not more than 15 minutes.

Should we go ahead, I will send via email a document outlining the terms for our work together for you to sign and send back, instructions for Bacs payment for the first session (to be paid 24 hours in advance) and either directions or the zoom link.

In the first of the booked sessions I will collect a little more information including about your issue, general health and wellbeing.  Thereafter the sessions will be bespoke to your needs and the feelings, thoughts and concerns you would like to explore.  Each session lasts for 50 minutes.   I asked for 24 hours notice of cancellations.
