About me and my therapy practice
I work as an integrative therapist with a psychodynamic foundation. Translated into English, this means that I have the skills and training to look at your issues through a variety of different lenses.
For example, my psychodynamic training has equipped me to be able to help you take a deep dive into your childhood and early years (if that is what you want) and work out what might have contributed to your current difficulties, and why. The integrative elements, such as Gestalt, Humanistic, Person Centred and Relational, mean that I am able to provide a warm, non-judgemental and confidential space where we can explore together the issues that you are facing using a variety of different techniques and approaches. Everyone is unique and as such the way in which we undertake the therapy journey together will reflect this.
I also have training as a trauma-informed therapist, meaning that I can help you to identify and process feelings resulting from any trauma that you may have experienced, either directly (personal trauma) or indirectly (vicarious/secondary trauma).
I am currently undertaking a Coaching Certificate qualification that means that I can also tailor the therapy in a more solution-focused way should that be relevant or interesting to you.
Starting therapy can sometimes feel like a daunting prospect and there can be many conflicting feelings around doing so. My goal as a therapist is to provide you with a place where you can feel completely at ease to bring whatever it is that you wish to talk through. Together, we can look at anything and everything that is causing you to feel stuck, sad, angry, alone, overwhelmed (the list goes on) and help you create coping mechanisms and strategies for moving forwards in a more satisfying and peaceful way.
Practice description
I work from my therapy room in Berwick St John in the beautiful and peaceful Chalke Valley, about 10 minutes from Shaftesbury. There is parking, a WC, but no wheelchair access, as the building is accessed up a few stone steps.
I offer sessions face-to-face, and also online. I do not offer telephone sessions as I believe that the more that we can be together during a session, the more effective the therapy will be. There is also the option of walk-and-talk therapy after the first six sessions - of course dependent on the Great British weather!
I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, and there are concessionary rates for counselling students (£30) as part of their Level 4 Diploma.
If you would like to get in touch and find out if we might be a good fit for working together, please email me and we can schedule a 15/20 minute online meeting or telephone call.
My first session
During our first session together, I will take an informal assessment in order to gather details of family history, medical history, past therapy, therapy goals - really anything that might be relevant to how we will proceed.
It will also be a chance for you to ask me any questions you might have and for us to look together at how we will go forward.
Prior to the first session, I will send you a copy of my Working Agreement, laying out what you can expect from me as your counsellor, as well as looking at how we will keep the therapy safe and on track. We will look at this during the first session and if there is anything you wish to add or amend, we can do so then. If you are happy to then continue your therapy with me as your therapist, we would look to sign the agreement either at the end of the first session or the start of the next.
