About me and my therapy practice
Hello my name is Georgia and I believe that Therapy is for everyone, and its impact can be life-changing.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means my training allows me to adapt to different counselling methods in the style that best suits your needs. I use a relational, person-centred, holistic mind-body, trauma-informed approach where you are at the centre of our work.
My humanistic training leads me to believe that we are all born equipped with resources and the ability to live a fulfilling life. However, often during childhood or later in life, events, interfere with our emotional development, becoming stuck in fixed behavioural patterns and beliefs about ourselves ultimately impacting our present.
I provide a calm, confidential and non-judgemental space for you to look at your experiences and how they have impacted on your thoughts, feelings, health and responses in life.
In addition to my private practice, I work as a Trauma Informed and Domestic Violence Counsellor for an organization where I have received specific training to work with victims of Sexual Assault and any form of Abuse, past and present, supporting male, female members of the LGBTQ +, who as a result, have been impacted by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I also work for MIND offering support within the Crisis Support Team.
I have experience working with a variety of issues, including and not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, anger, any abuse related issues, attachment and relationship difficulties. I work with what the client brings in the here and now, by exploring feelings and events, making sense of the struggles, understanding how unprocessed trauma and stress affect both nervous system and mind, make meaning from exploring life's patterns, looking at the whole on how the past affects the present.
Practice description
It is my aim to offer you a warm, confidential, collaborative, compassionate and non-shaming/judgemental space for you to look at your experiences and how they have impacted on your thoughts, feelings, health and responses in life.
I offer to accompany you on a very personal, and possibly difficult journey, with the knowledge, ability, and professionalism that enables me to hold a therapeutic space for you to explore safely, without the fear of judgement or rejection.
Whatever your struggles are, I believe in the profound healing potential of the counselling relationship, inspiring change so to improve the quality of life through self-awareness and self-exploration with the ultimate goal to feel empowered.
My first session
Counselling involves talking about some deep and personal experiences so finding a counsellor who you can feel connected to it's crucial.
On our first session I will provide you with a space to explore the issues that bring you to counselling and any relevant background history. We will also use this time to talk through our working agreement together.
If you would like more information before proceeding or you are still feeling unsure, I also offer a free, introductory call for 20 minutes which allows us to get a sense of how we might work together, your hopes and expectations of the therapy process and I can answer any questions or concerns you may have.
I know from my own experiences of therapy that it takes courage to take that first step and it is common to experience a feeling of anxiousness, nervousness or apprehension before a first session. It is for these reasons that I aim to ensure you feel settled and comfortable.
