About me and my therapy practice
Please be aware that I am now out of office until 2nd January 2025. From the 2nd - 6th I will be offering a limited service, and I shall be working a full week again from 6th January onwards. Please feel free to reach out here, or via my website, but my response time will reflect my holiday. Wishing you all the best at this time of year.
Prior to qualifying as a therapist I supported people who were homeless and struggling with abuse, trauma and addiction. And preceding that I worked in a mental health care home helping people with a range of conditions from depression to schizophrenia and bipolar. I've also been through my own journey with mental health concerns and therefore know that change is always possible. My journey wont give you the answers, but it will allow me to support you through yours with compassion and empathy.
The nature of my private practice is to give others the level of support that was so invaluable to me. This is what drives me; helping and giving back to others. I aim to treat my clients holistically, looking at all elements that may be contributing to their current concerns. I offer safety, understanding, and a commitment to growing a relationship with you where you can share without fear of judgement. From this place, change can come and confidence can grow.
My hopes are that you achieve whatever goals you desire. I hope that you will grow to trust me and that through working collaboratively we can get you to where you would rather be. I believe we all have the potential to shine, but life circumstances can dull us - this I would like to change. I have seen & experienced that when body, mind and soul are all working together a person can flourish, no matter what has gone before. This is why, if you so choose, I work holistically. I don't believe that any problem is too small for counselling. If it matters to you it matters.
Practice description
I am open to both short and long term work. Choose from face to face sessions in Newquay, online, telephone or email counselling across the UK.
I'm Trained In - Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transpersonal Therapy, Person Centred Theory, Internal Family Systems, Transactional Analysis & a Trauma Informed Approach. For you this can mean there's real versatility with how we can work and I can adapt to best meet your needs, pulling on all these theories to find the best support fur you. No script, no cliched responses.
To date, I have worked with adults struggling with many mental health concerns including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, disordered eating, social anxiety. I work a lot with abandonment, toxic relationships, trauma and have experience with both victims and perpetrators of abuse. I trained at a men’s well-being centre and 85% of my clients have been male.
In addition to my counselling diploma, I have an NVQ in Health & Social Care & am certificated as a Trauma Informed Coach. I am also ASIST trained (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). I now also teach counselling. For me this is very important as I have seen many unethical counsellors in my time, and see teaching as a way to lay strong foundations for future ethical and moral therapists. I am enhancing my professional skills with a course on working somatically with trauma, and a Level 5 counselling certificate.
Wellbeing Check-Ins
Designed as an opportunity for you to air things to help prevent the build-up which may lead to depression or debilitating anxiety. I suggest these to be 2 hour sessions at the frequency you determine, typically every 4-8 weeks, or maybe just a 1 off.
My first session
I offer a free 45 minute consultation. In this session I will need to gather some basic details, but it's also your opportunity to ask any questions of me. The purpose of this free session is for you to see how you feel talking to me, and to decide if you think I may be the right therapist for you. For me, it's the chance to get to know you a little and to see if I think I can meet your needs.
For wellbeing check-ins, the consultation is only 15 minutes, also complimentary.
Following this, the 1st subsequent session will be a paid session and we will spend some of that time agreeing how we will work together and deciding what we may expect of each other.
