I work full time as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor Monday to Friday. I also offer evening sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
About me and my therapy practice
I'm a fully qualified and experienced integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor (MÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, BSc (Hons)).
'Integrative' means that rather than meeting you with a singular way of working in mind, I call upon approaches and theories to suit your unique needs. As a psychotherapeutic counsellor, I place emphasis on the therapeutic relationship - that is how you and I work together to offer you reparative experiences of being in relation with an other. I view human suffering holistically, appreciating your experiences in mind, body and soul in the context of your life. I give as much focus to your past as to your present, to the big picture as to small momentary experiences and I offer a calm and empathic presence, encouraging you to observe your feelings, behaviours and beliefs and how they affect your life.
I work in a 'trauma-informed' way meaning that I have experience of prioritising emotional safety for clients. I offer a safe and non-judgmental presence, helping you to grow in your awareness and develop meaningful inner compassion.
Ultimately, we explore whatever you want to bring to counselling. I know that sometimes it's hard to face pain and distress, so we work together at your pace.
Practice description
I am passionate about the effectiveness of my work for my clients so continuously read relevant literature to deepen my knowledge and skills and stay up to date with contemporary ideas and findings. I attend relevant high quality CPD opportunities (Continuing Professional Development) to keep my approach up to date and in line with professional standards and work with a highly experienced Supervisor to enrich my therapeutic work.
My current interests range from recent research on treatment for trauma, neuroscientific results from psychotherapy, systemic constellation work and attachment and relationships in couples.
Self-awareness and my own mental and physical health is also key to the work so I maintain a compassionate and proactive approach to my own mental wellness.
My first session
Our first session begins with introducing ourselves and setting the scene for our working relationship. We'll cover contracting and boundaries and then spend most of the time hearing about your reasons for seeking help and your goals for therapy.
Ultimately, the first session is a chance for you to check that you feel safe and comfortable working with me and for me to ensure a therapeutic relationship can be established, with your best interests in mind.
