About me and my therapy practice
Hello.
It's really hard to trawl through all the different therapist options and work out which one person is going to be right for you. So here's a bit about me and how I work and if that sounds like a good fit, I look forward to hearing from you.
I trained as a therapist initially because I like to listen to people, but then it became more than that - it became about how to use those listening skills, and psychology theories and models, to help people navigate challenges in life in a supportive, caring environment.
I work using a Relational Integrative Model which is rooted in how we connect with each other, both within the therapeutic space - with me - and outside it, with friends, family, colleagues and anyone else in our lives. I'm a registered member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ and have done both standard and specialist training as part of my education as a therapist. I'm also committed to continuously developing myself and my skills as a counsellor, so am often to be found reading the latest research, or deep in reflection after a though-provoking lecture, podcast or talk.
I've worked with people of all ages and did my specialist training with children and young people, as well as some time spent doing crisis work. Mental health - and how to help people with theirs - is an area I've been involved in for over 20 years now, so while I've seen a lot, each person's story and goals are unique, and will always require a specific approach, which we can work together to plan and and build on.
Practice description
I currently only work online but am available for local home visits (west London) if needed.
Before we start working fully together, I offer a 20-minute 'chemistry' call so you can see if it's a good fit for you; all the research shows that the single biggest factor in positive therapeutic outcomes is the relationship between the therapist and the client, so it's really important to make sure you feel comfortable (as comfortable as you can feel with a complete stranger) with the dynamic from the start.
My first session
Once we've had the chemistry session and you feel like this is a good fit for you, we'll have our first session. I won't ask you to fill out an assessment form because I've found this can feel overwhelming for some people, so we'll go through that when we meet; like your reasons for wanting therapy, any experience you have of it previously, and, of course, a little background about you and your life in general.
Then we'll talk about your goals with the work - what changes you may want in your life, what you need from me as a therapist, and what difference you want the therapy to make. Equally, you may simply want to start therapy in order to have a place just to talk. Whatever you are coming for, we'll work together to meet your goals.
