About me and my therapy practice
I offer a non-judgemental and confidential space to talk, to think, to be listened to and heard as I explore alongside you what influences your thoughts, beliefs and behaviours.
I bring with me a range of experience of working with people of all different ages and stages of life. This has taught me that early life events and relationships, and what we have internalised about ourselves in response to these experiences, have an impact on how we deal with life in adulthood. Early life creates the building blocks for our outlook and response to the external world.
I believe that we all have different parts which we draw on to cope in different contexts, however, some parts can be louder and more dominant than others. I also believe that it is important to listen to your internal dialogue and be curious about what is influencing it and how it influences your thoughts, beliefs and actions.
I don’t have the answers, my aim is to facilitate your ability to get to know and understand yourself better. To enable you to have greater insight into what helps you to feel stronger and able to manage your life in the way that you want.
Practice description
As a psychodynamic counsellor my approach involves exploring early life experiences as they continue to influence the way that we experience and respond to the world around us. Feelings associated with these experiences are often pushed into the unconscious so that you are able to continue with everyday life but they are still there and can still cause issues. By talking about these experiences we can begin to develop some insight into what is being held within your body and your unconscious that troubles you in the present day.
I believe in the importance of working in a relational way and developing a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients. It is really important that you feel comfortable and able to trust your counsellor so that you feel able to share, explore and find strength within yourself.
My first session
I offer a free 15 minute telephone or Zoom call so that you can meet me and tell me what brings you to counselling. There is no obligation to then book sessions after this call.
If you do decide to book sessions, then the first session will be a more detailed discussion to find out more about you. This will be at the usual fee of £45 and last for 50 minutes. This can be on the phone, on Zoom or in person.
