About me and my therapy practice
I respect the courage it takes to reach out. I provide a space where you can talk confidentially and experience warmth, support and acceptance from someone who wants to see things from your perspective.
Listening to what you are going through gives us both a deeper understanding, together we can begin to make sense of things which will provide relief. You will feel more able to manage and cope with what you find difficult.
We can find a way to come to terms with things, explore anything you would like to be different and how to go about making that happen. I work in a gentle way with care and consideration at your pace. Your choices, thoughts and feelings will always be respected.
I provide 1:1 sessions in Southbourne, Bournemouth for adults over 18 and have a background in mental health. I have worked with: anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement, family and relationship issues, divorce and separation, low self esteem, confidence or motivation, stress and intense emotions such as anger.
Practice description
I am an integrative counsellor working in a person centred way which means you will feel valued. I use empathy and honesty to help you rediscover and strengthen your own ability to deal with life’s problems.
As every person is unique and has different circumstances, I am trained in a variety of approaches. This enables me to find a way of working that suits you to live a more fulfilling life.
This includes:
- Different types of talking therapy.
- Working with our body using somatic techniques, movement and gesture to shift what is stored in the body.
- Or creatively with a sand tray, objects, symbolism and imagery. Working with our unconscious is a way of understanding things we may not be aware of which can be helpful and healing.
I was a counsellor for a service based in Lymington, and have over 20 years experience of helping people. I worked in supportive roles in education, criminal justice system and on NHS mental health wards such as: eating disorders, dementia, intensive care, forensic, adolescents and the crisis helpline. I previously trained in Dramatherapy and anger management.
My first session
Our initial contact is a way of introducing ourselves, you can ask any questions you may have.
If you decide you would like to meet in person we will book an initial meeting with no obligation to see if you feel comfortable working with me.
We will do a brief assessment where I gather basic information and we come to an agreement about how to work together. I regularly make sure we are working in a way that is helpful for you and encourage feedback about how you experience counselling.
