About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome to my page.

I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist who specialises in offering therapeutic support to children and young people, 4-25 years. I currently work as a School Counsellor in a secondary school and enjoy building a trusting and safe relationship with young people to help them explore and work through the difficulties they are facing.

Counselling is your space. It is your space to decide what you wish to explore, how you might like to explore it, and the pace in which we do so. I offer a warm, empathetic, non-judgemental and confidential space. I believe that everybody, no matter their age, needs a safe space to express themselves, be seen, heard, and understood.

Being an integrative therapist/counsellor, I am trained in person-centred and psychoanalytical therapy. I offer many different types of therapy depending on the needs and suitability to the individual. I use creative methods, which often helps young people find words for their feelings. This might be drawing, painting, sand-tray, games, slime, model making. I also offer more traditional person-centred talking therapies, as well as CBT, which may appeal to clients who like to 'do'/ 'action' in order to solve a problem. I am also trained in play therapy, which, provides another avenue through which to explore and express feelings that cannot yet be put into words. I also always consider the family dynamics and external systems around the young person, such as, school, society, culture, religion. The relationship between myself and the client is fundamentally the most important aspect of the work, and I endeavour to build safety and trust throughout.

I am trauma-informed and draw upon attachment theory in my work too. I have many years of experience working with vulnerable children and young people, including Children Looked After.

I hold an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy for Children, Adolescence and Families from the University of Roehampton, London.

Practice description

I am based in Kenilworth and Coventry working from an office space.

We can work together either short or long term. This can be face to face or online. I can work with you either weekly, fortnightly, or monthly, with each session lasting 50 minutes. I am currently offering sessions in the evening on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I do have some day flexibility so please ask.

I have many years experience working with young people within the education and charity sector. I am registered with the DBS update service. I am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ).

- Their identity, gender or sexuality

- Building resilience, self confidence and self-esteem

- Triggers of self-harm and how to manage them

- Feelings around loss and bereavement

- Changes in life such as moving to secondary school, family changes or exams and tests.

- Previous trauma

My first session

If you are interested in counselling with me, I ask that you email requesting an Intake form. I will email this to you to complete and return to me. I also welcome a free 15-minute phone call at this stage if you'd like to ask any questions.

After this, if we feel that working together is starting to feel right, I will provide a consultation.

For clients under 18, I will carry out a Parent Consultation. If you are over 18, I can offer you a consultation session. We can meet and see if I am the best fit. We can explore the counselling process and the work we may be able to do together.

During our first session, we will complete an assessment. This gives us a chance to get to know one another. We can explore what is difficult for you, your lifestyle, relationships, home and school/work life. This initial session aims to create greater understanding and a focus for our work going forward. This, of course, may change as time goes on.

We can also set counselling goals. This may be something like, "develop coping strategies for panic attacks" or, "feel more confident in my skin". We will look at your expectations and hopes for your time in counselling. We will also contract in our first session, discuss the limits and boundaries around counselling.

I carry out review sessions roughly every 6 sessions with the client, depending on the age and pace of the work. I also offer review sessions roughly every 6 sessions with parents. This gives us all a chance to reflect on the counselling work so far, provide two-way feedback, and create a focus for the next sessions. It is important that parents know that I will not break confidentiality of my clients within the reviews, unless I have their permission or feel that something needs to be shared as a duty of care. We can however discuss the themes of the work, and any progress/ sticking points. This space is aimed at creating a productive and open dialogue.

Consultations and reviews can be completed online. There is a separate charge.
