About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist which means that I work with a variety of therapeutic approaches that can be adapted to your needs. These approaches include Person Centred Theory, Poly Vagal Theory, Attachment Theories, Gestalt, Positive Psychology and I also have extensive experience with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am happy to explain how this could help, or answer any questions in an introductory phone call.
I believe that everyone deserves a safe, supportive space to feel heard, and to work through their struggles. Despite what may be a common thought, there is no such thing as a ‘typical counsellor’ I am down to earth and do my best to put you at ease from the outset.
Practice description
I am a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ registered counsellor and psychotherapist working from my therapy room in central Exeter that is accessible to clients across Devon. I also offer online and telephone counselling throughout the UK. I offer individual therapy for children, young people and adults as well as family therapy. I have worked in Psychology and mental health for over 20 years in schools, colleges and a residential setting, and have a great deal of experience in working with mental health diagnoses.
I have volunteered in an agency working with survivors of domestic abuse, and have specialist training in this area. I have also volunteered with post 16 pupils in a college setting. Alongside my private practice I work for an online platform providing person centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and creative therapies for children and young people.
I have extensive experience in working with neurodiverse children and adults in addition to which I am a trained Autistic Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist.
I have many years’ experience working in schools and colleges and I have training and experience working with a variety of creative techniques that can be used with adults as well as children and young people. I work with children from the age of 7.
My first session
Our first session together is a chance to get to know one another and to explore how therapy might help you. We will talk through a working agreement which gives us a shared understanding of what to expect from each other. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. We can also decide if we feel like a ‘good fit’ as trust in our therapeutic relationship is paramount.
Taking the first step can be hard and even feel intimidating. Maybe you have considered having counselling several times but put it off for various reasons. Once you have made the decision to go ahead I am committed to making you feel at ease.
