About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am Jackie; a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor and CBT Therapist based on the Wirral. Taking the initial step into counselling is an opportunity for you to explore if you want to feel differently, bring about change, understand your experiences and instigate personal growth. I am confident that I can provide you with the unwavering support you are seeking for progress and to move forward.

My journey into counselling began after witnessing the transformative impact of therapy on my children and experiencing the work of an exceptional therapist firsthand. Feeling empowered to speak freely, heard without interruption and without judgment, inspired me to create that same opportunity for others.

I deeply value and respect each client and your understanding of your experiences. By seeking counselling, you are expressing a desire to be heard, and I am here to provide a warm, empathetic, and safe space where you can share openly, knowing that I will listen and support you.

I currently work in private practice with adults of all ages and students aged 11 to 17 years. My experience spans areas such as Bereavement, Domestic Abuse, Unhealthy Relationships, Child-on-Parent Violence, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Suicide Prevention, and Mental Health.

I have volunteered for MIND, working with clients from diverse backgrounds struggling with anxiety, depression, the impact and aftermath of COVID-19, loss of identity, and low self-esteem. Additionally, I have volunteered for CRUSE, supporting clients dealing with bereavement, extreme grief and traumatic loss.

In the field of Domestic Abuse, I have provided one-to-one support for victims and conducted workshops for various groups, including the Police Force, school and college students, in understanding Unhealthy Relationships and Coercive Control.

As a member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ), my work is firmly underpinned by their Ethical Framework and a commitment to counsel accordingly.

Practice description

It is important to me that our counselling journey begins with understanding and reassurance. We will explore at your pace with you as my primary focus during our sessions together.

The foundation of my counselling is based on a person-centred model by Carl Rogers. His approach emphasises that an individual's experiences shape our thoughts, emotions, decisions, and relationships as we go through life. I am particularly fond of the quote by Carl Rogers: "The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination." We can all interpret this in our own way; what we perceive to be a "good life," what we strive for in our work or family life, and how we set goals towards achieving a "good life."

I am committed to empowering my clients to explore their past, present, or future, focusing on the significance of the here and now. As an Integrative therapist, we may explore other therapeutic models, such as Cognitive Behaviorual Therapy, to bring a more structured and goal-driven focus to our sessions.

I regularly engage in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to develop my skill set and proficiency as a therapist. Additionally, I attend monthly clinical supervision, working with an experienced therapist to explore my current practice, thus ensuring I maintain a safe and ethical counselling environment.

Once you have made initial contact, we will discuss your expectations and address any questions you may have. 

My first session

I understand that attending your first counselling session can be daunting. There are worries about what to talk about, whether you will like the counsellor, and if you will feel overwhelmed when you begin to talk. Please know that I am here to support you.

To help you make an informed decision about counselling, I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation. During this time, you can ask any questions you may have, discuss session arrangements, and understand what to expect. Normally, this consultation is done via telephone.

Our first session will begin with creating a Counselling Agreement. This document contains information about our time together, such as the location, cost, session length, and confidentiality. It's a collaborative agreement that can be reviewed and updated at any time. If needed, we may also conduct initial assessments to support our work together.
