About me and my therapy practice
I believe that psychotherapy has the potential to get to the root of distress. Through a safe and confidential therapeutic relationship, we can come to understand ourselves better and live with more fulfilment, freedom and self-acceptance. Having been in therapy myself, I know first-hand that the process and effects can be profound.
Part of this means looking at how experiences and relationships from earlier in your life are affecting things now. And part of this means learning to be with your present-day experience in a different way – becoming more mindful and curious about your emotions, your mind and your body.
I am an attachment-based psychotherapist based in Old Street, Islington. I have completed a four-year training in attachment-based psychoanlalytic psychotherapy at The Bowlby Centre. As well as my private practice, I also work as a psychotherapist within the NHS.
My work is particularly informed by the following:
Attachment
In attachment-based psychotherapy, we explore the relationships that shape our life -- both in the past and the present. This helps us create more satisfying connections with others and feel more secure in ourselves.
Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalysis seeks to bring our hidden thoughts, feelings and desires out into the open. In doing so, we can get to know ourselves better and gain new freedoms and choices.
Trauma
Trauma happens when our mind, body and self are overwhelmed – often resulting from abuse, neglect, violence or loss. I use trauma-informed approaches to reduce overwhelm and disentangle past and present.
Power and oppression
I prioritise the impact of power and oppression within my clients' lives and within the therapy relationship. I strive to be an ally to those whose power, identity and humanity have been undermined.
Practice description
My office is based in Old Street, Islington. I am within 5 minutes' walk of Old Street station and situated close to Shoreditch and the City.
My office is on the first floor, without lift access. Therefore it is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
I see clients once or twice weekly – or on a more frequent basis, if appropriate.
I usually work on a long-term open-ended basis, meaning that therapy lasts for at least six months and goes on for as long as you wish to continue.
Please contact me to discuss my availability and fees.
Sessions last for 50 minutes. Online sessions are available.
My first session
I offer an initial short telephone consultation, free of charge.
I then offer two initial 50 minute sessions. These initial sessions are a chance to get to know each other a little, for you to see how you feel about working with me and for me to be sure that I am the right therapist for you.
These initial sessions will discuss your reasons for pursuing therapy and your goals for our work together. We might also discuss your history, any important relationships and any relevant life events or concerns.
