About me and my therapy practice
An experienced Advanced Therapeutic Counsellor (MÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ) & trainee Psychosexual & Relational Therapist (COSRT), one of my main focuses is relationships – not only relationships we have with others, but the relationship we have with parts of ourselves, & how these can help us thrive and rise to challenges, or keep us sad/stuck in unhelpful cycles.
I also focus on building a compassionate, trusting, respectful relationship with you. The work we do together can help you explore these parts and feelings; build your self compassion and self-respect; uncover & challenge self-beliefs/patterns of behaviour; increase your ability to self-soothe; overcome barriers – at a pace that suits you. If you want to explore arousal, desire or intimacy – perhaps you’ve been impacted by childbirth, menopause, erectile dysfunction, stress or other life events, we can explore this too.
I grew up in a diverse community, & am confident that you will find me warm, non-judgmental & open minded. I understand & accept different ways of thinking, feeling, processing and experiencing the world. If you have recently discovered that you are ADHD or autistic, I can help you find understanding & acceptance of your unique strengths & weaknesses. I have lived experience & experience of the challenges this can bring – such as rejection sensitivity, processing, sex, relationships & shame.
I am an LGBTQ+ ally & am open to, & comfortable with, exploring your feelings, challenges & triumphs.
Practice description
Most of us, at some point in our lives, feel sadness, frustration or anger. At times though, this can feel unmanageable, or overwhelming. You may be struggling with a relationship, feeling depressed or anxious, procrastinating, or wrestling with an inner voice which has become loud and increasingly self-critical. Perhaps you’ve lost trust in yourself, and find yourself wondering ‘is it me?’
As a person-centred counsellor, my approach is collaborative. You can expect a warm, welcoming compassionate (and often humorous space) in person, or online. Difficulties I have worked with include;
Relationships, anxiety, procrastination, family dynamics, menopause, post-baby blues, suicidal thoughts, attachment, bereavement and loss, workplace stress, health problems, arousal, desire and intimacy, and am actively increasing my knowledge around issues of gender and sexuality.
I've worked with a wide range of people, including those within the criminal system, drug users & young people alienated from education finding that having a non-judgmental connection & feeling understood and valued, has had a massive impact on people in all areas of life, including mine. I’ve applied my counselling skills in many areas; as a counsellor and counselling service co-ordinator in an NHS Step 3 charity; as a counsellor, & pastoral manager, with children with SEN, and young adults at Lifeline and in NACRO.
Regarding numbers of sessions, that is entirely up to you. Six to ten sessions may suit for short term work, (you may even find two or three two sessions enough to benefit you), or you may prefer to work together for longer to explore deeper issues. Some of my clients have found it useful to 'drop back in' after a number of sessions, as and when needed.
I also offer concessionary rates for counselling students and block bookings, work online and from a comfortable room in South Manchester.
My first session
I understand how important it is that you feel comfortable with your therapist.
I offer a 30 min, face-to-face introductory session for £15.00, or a free 20 min telephone session, where we can discuss your main area of concern and whether I am the right fit for you.
If we decide not to go ahead, for whatever reason, I will offer a referral to another trusted therapist.
