About me and my therapy practice
I grew up in mainland China and have lived in the UK for over 20 years. Moving away from home on my own at a young age, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery which has led me to greater understanding of my own and others' inherent need for self-realization.
We all long for a connection in which we are never reduced or misunderstood. Therapy is a journey of self-enquiry, through which we develop a deeper self-awareness, can recognize patterns and make kinder, more positive choices for ourselves and those around us. By bringing awareness and understanding to what is causing us pain or problems, we can learn to move away from self-defeating patterns of survival and towards a new future aligned with our inner integrity.
I am a qualified counsellor trained at the Institute of Psychosynthesis in London. The aspiration of psychosynthesis is 'Serving Humanity in Transition'. Whether you are facing specific challenges, seeking personal growth, or simply exploring your inner world, together we can embark on a therapeutic journey and work towards responding more deeply to the world around you, and creating a new warmth and vitality within you. I look forward to the privilege of joining you on your path to self-discovery and healing.
Practice description
Psychosynthesis is a 'Psychology of Hope' that works holistically, nurturing synergy between all parts of your personality, enhance introspection, build ego strength and foster resilience. Instead of a pathologizing psychology, psychosynthesis is kind and empathic before it is probing and analytical. Keenly aware that symptom is a message to be understood rather than an obstacle to be removed, I hold an attitude of respect and a committed interest for the being of the client, the unique and mysterious nature of the other. I employ the appropriate way of working depending on what brings you to therapy, your struggles, your hopes and your aspirations.
Utilizing a wide range of creative ways of exploration, I aspire to be able to work at depth and honor all aspects of your human experience. I provide an empathic and non-judgmental space, inviting you to gradually learn to be with yourself. As we unpack gently the mysterious layers of your inner world, we learn to sit with difficult emotions. We create a space for you to ponder, to grapple, to muse, to gain new insights, to find meaning and to learn how to support yourself and not abandon yourself.
My first session
I offer an initial free 20 - 30 minute phone / video consultation to understand exactly what you are looking for, answer any preliminary questions and for us to get a sense of what it might be like to work together. If we decide to proceed, we will establish a counselling contract to ensure transparency, confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
In our first session, we'll explore what brought you to therapy. The decision to seek therapy can be both courageous and vulnerable. I'm deeply interested in your unique human experience. My core training is "integrative" in nature, and my approach is relational. I'm committed in cultivating a collaborative therapeutic relationship where you can feel deeply understood, nurtured and empowered.
