About me and my therapy practice
My name is Sophie, and I am an integrative therapist - which I know doesn't really mean anything to most people when they first start therapy! The most important thing to know about how I work is that my focus is on you, the client; our sessions are a confidential space for you to explore your unique story, and what has brought you to where you are now. My job is to offer you a place where you can share, rant, laugh and cry - somewhere that feels real and safe, and you can be completely yourself.
I have an MA (Distinction) in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, and have been working in mental health services in the community for many years. One of the privileges of this work is bearing witness to the wide array of experiences and backgrounds of the people that I have worked with - and I hope to create a therapeutic space where no topic is off limits.
I have particular experience in working with health-care workers, people struggling in the peri-natal period, and people exploring neurodivergence as adults. Academically, I am interested in power-dynamics within culture and society, and how these affect the way we all move though our world.
Practice description
The beauty of the therapeutic relationship is that it is like no other relationship in our lives. It is a space where we can share our thorniest thoughts and not be judged; it is a tool that we can use to identify older tangled patterns of relating to others; it is a bond where vulnerability won't be punished or exploited. It is a place where we don't have to tie ourselves up in knots to be liked, or valued, or get it right. It is a relationship where we can just be as we truly are.
I have experienced the transformative experience that therapy can have, and like many of my colleagues, it is what has brought me to this work in the first place. There is something very balancing and liberating about understanding why you are the way you are, and why any previous coping strategies are not working so well any more. It can help you not only be the most authentic version of yourself in your life, but can also help you move through difficult times with self-compassion and a better sense of what you need.
In my therapy practice, I place emphasis on making sure sessions feel genuine and relevant to the client. I hope to offer an experience of therapy that isn't the ones we see in the media: cold or clinical, or impersonal and unsupportive. I bring my heart and curiousity to each session, ready to meet my clients wherever they are.
