About me and my therapy practice
As well as being a qualified therapist I am also an approved therapist with Anxiety UK as I specialise in working with anxiety that people are experiencing with multiple problems in their lives. I work with people from all walks of life that are finding themselves unable to deal with a wide variety of life changes such as end of relationships, kids off to university and empty nest syndrome and the other side of the coin students experiencing the change of life that goes with going to university, dissatisfaction with life and loss - which can be anything from loss of confidence, a job, a home as well as bereavement, and I provide a safe place to talk, share and help them find ways of coping and moving forward.Therapy is about change which can be painful and frightening so my role is be there to support you as they go through that process. Feeling anxious, lost or stressed, thinking and/or feeling that no one understands is a familiar situation for many of us myself included so I can empathise fully with this and what it feels like accessing therapy so please be reassured that through that experience I can understand your fears and help you through the experience.
I use a talking therapy combined with aspects of other therapies so that people receive a therapy tailored to their needs and at all times I will be lead by them regarding how fast or slow we go as taking back control of their lives is at the crux of our sessions.
Practice description
I offer face to face therapy in a room based in an arts centre which provides a secure and comfortable environment. I offer person centred therapy which is exactly what is says, a therapy centred around you, which provides you with the opportunity to speak freely and be listened to. I'm not there to judge or criticise that is not what my therapy is about , you can talk to me about anything and receive my unbiased, undivided attention. I will always be lead by you as to how fast or slow we go as I want you to feel in control of the situation, if not initially, then as the therapy progresses. Initially, I would suggest that we look at around 6 weekly sessions as this is the time when feelings can be at their strongest and the need for support may be more intense after that we will reassess and see how to proceed. If the meetings are to take place online or via the phone then the way I would work with you would be exactly the same. I offer a therapy that is for you and tailored to you
My first session
The first session is very much a fact finding session for both of us. I need to find out about you and why you are there to ensure that I can provide you with the right therapy so I may ask a lot of questions, it is also your opportunity to ask me anything you want to so that you can decide if you feel comfortable in working with me. The relationship between us is a very important part of my particular therapy as you need to feel able to trust me, so if after this meeting you don't feel that I will help you find another therapist as you receiving the right therapy is at the heart of what I do.
I will also provide information about what to expect and provide you with techniques that you may find useful to help you at different times throughout the therapy.
