About me and my therapy practice
My areas of experience cover anxiety, overwhelm, anger, depression, trauma, abuse, dissociation, avoidance and suicidal ideation. I am currently specialising in psychological trauma and PTSD treatment, which also includes mood stabilisation and emotion regulation. I have experience working with a diverse spectrum of people across the UK. My client base is adults 16+, and I offer both long term and short term therapy, in peson or online.
Practice description
An integrative approach to therapy acknowledges that everyone is unique, so it would be unrealistic to expect the exact same therapeutic approach to work for every person. By taking into account your personal frame of reference, your circumstances and the way you function and feel, I will collaborate with you and draw from the relevant approaches that best fit you.
Practising an integrative approach in counselling and psychotherapy involves combining and blending relevant theory and interventions. The modalities I draw from are humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive therapy.
For trauma or mood disorder work, evidence based interventions mainly stemming from cognitive therapy can be used to help with PTSD, C-PTSD and mood disorders. These are integrated into the overall therapeutic process as needed. (Prolonged Exposure therapy; Imagery Rescripting and Reproccessing Therapy; Skills Training for Affective and Interpersonal Regulation).
Meditations, creative therapy and movement may make an appearance in our sessions too. By co-creating the therapeutic space together and focusing on interventions that resonate with you individually, you receive a tailored approach for your particular needs.
My first session
The first session is typically an exploration of your experiences, how they have impacted you, and what you might like to work on. In this session, you are welcome to say as much or as little as you like, moving at a pace that works best for you. If it is helpful, I may ask some open questions to facilitate this exploration. The main thing is that you feel comfortable in the process, and that we work collaboratively at your pace. What I can help with
