About me and my therapy practice

Hello! My name is Ayanda and thank you for considering my profile. I am a qualified trauma informed integrative counsellor currently offering online sessions with adults.

I trained at The Minster Centre. My integrative training means I am able to tailor my approach to address your individual concerns. I draw primarily on relational, existential and embodied approaches. This means considering the role relationships have played in shaping your experience (including with yourself, within your family and wider society); exploring the meaning you make of your concerns and ways that your concerns can manifest themselves in and through your body. I bring an intersectional lens to my practice considering the role that oppression can play in shaping your daily experience.

I come to counselling following a career in audience research spanning nearly 15 years. After my own journey of transformation which was facilitated by therapy, I trained as counsellor in the hopes of facilitating spaces of exploration and transformation for others.

I am also a member of the Black and Asian Therapist Network (BAATN)

Practice description

Indlela is a Zulu word meaning path or journey but also resource. I believe this word encapsulates the role I play as counsellor. Someone who will accompany you on your journey through the difficulties or concerns that bring you to therapy by offering a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. Through this exploration, we will work to discover and develop the internal resources you need to continue your journey, even once you have left therapy.

My first session

I know taking that first step towards therapy can be a daunting prospect and so you may have a lot of questions about therapy and the ways that it can support you.

To help with this I offer a free 15min introductory call which will allow us to meet, explore what brings you to therapy and help to determine whether I am the right therapist for you.

Should you wish to continue, we will schedule an assessment session either online or in person to further explore what brings you to therapy. This session will help determine whether our work will be time limited (6-12 sessions focused on a particular issue which we will decide at the onset) or open-ended and longer term.

We will then meet for weekly 50min sessions to explore the areas identified within this assessment session.
