About me and my therapy practice
I am Lee Smith, and I am a therapist specializing in providing therapy to children aged 3 to 12 years accreddited with British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT) I have extensive experience working with children facing a range of difficulties, including those with developmental conditions such as Autism and ADHD. I am also very comfortable working with children who exhibit aggressive, destructive, or challenging behavior.
As a Child-Centered Play Therapist, I understand that children often struggle to communicate their feelings or experiences verbally. Therefore, I provide a range of toys and art materials that allow children to express themselves freely through the most natural means for them鈥攑lay.
The essence of Child-Centered Play Therapy is that the child takes the lead in the play, and when they are ready, they can begin to explore the challenges they are facing within the safety of the therapeutic relationship and physical space.
Practice description
I provide weekly therapy sessions in my space in Orpington, where I have a practice room within a Speech and Language practice. The space is warm and comfortable, and there is a space for parents/carers and younger siblings to wait while the child is accessing therapy.
If you feel that Play therapy will be helpful for your child, please feel free to contact me (contact details above) where we can have a free face-to-face or telephone chat to discuss your child's difficulties.
Please feel free to visit the website and get in contact if you would like to know more about what I offer.
My first session
For the first session, I ask parents to be present within the room as this will be the first time that I meet the children. This can often be a scary and overwhelming experience for the child. The presence of a parent or carer can communicate that it鈥檚 okay and that the therapist is here to help.鈥
