About me and my therapy practice
About me
My name is Felicity and I am a fully qualified psychodynamic counsellor with a history of working in wellbeing for over 6 years. I currently work in a counselling charity in Wimbledon and as a private counsellor based in Carshalton and Clapham.
My background in wellbeing and mental health settings has been diverse and enhanced my career as a counsellor from living in North America and learning to adapt to big life changes, to UK work experience including prison support, recovery from addictions and supporting survivors of abuse.
How I work
I can offer a friendly, compassionate, and non-judgmental space to help you work through difficult issues. My counselling approach is to put you at the heart of sessions and work towards personal growth and a deeper understanding of self. I am committed to showing respect and empathy for everyone's individual circumstances.
My approach is to observe patterns of behaviour rooted in childhood which are being relived or repeated in adulthood. I actively listen to your past experiences and explore with you how they have shaped your present, giving you the option to change if you choose to.
I also believe in a holistic approach which integrates sensory body work, mindfulness and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) when appropriate.
What is Psychodynamic counselling?
Psychodynamic counselling theory centres on the understanding that most psychological processes are unconscious. This type of counselling focuses on how your early experiences and upbringing can influence your development, thoughts, and behaviours in adulthood. I can help you examine unresolved conflicts and symptoms that arise and together explore how these often connect to past early relationships that influence you in the present.
The greatest aim of psychodynamic counselling is to reach greater self-awareness of the unconscious thoughts and transition to a better understanding of yourself, how you behave and thoughts that are conscious and intentional.
